A few summers ago, I spent my spare time setting up designing demos, and now that Half Life 2 is out, I think everyone deserves to be able to use this.
1) Create C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\biggoose2006\half-life 2\hl2\cfg\autoexec.cfg using wordpad.
2) Copy this into that file:
Bind u "record demoname"
Bind i "stop"
3) While in game, 'u' will start recording the demo, and 'i' will stop recording it. To play back, type "playdemo demoname" into the console.
