An RAF Red Arrows pilot died when his plane crashed following a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival in Dorset.

Flt Lt Jon Egging, 33, from Rutland, was killed when his Hawk T1 aircraft - Red 4 - crashed about 1km south east of Bournemouth Airport at 13:50 BST.

Really sad stuff, saw these guys back at the start of Cows week on the Isle of Wight and they are just Fantastic. I hope this dosnt put a stop to the red arrows.

I wonder if it was a pilot error or a mechanical error? :S

Sad story.

I saw these about 2 or 3 years back down at Torbay. They put on a great show!

RIP.

Seems like there are more deaths at airshows than in combat D:

Red Arrow pilots are usually pretty damn competent afaik, I'd be surprised if it was pilot error.

Most sources I looked into yesterday largely suggested it was mechanical. Sucks big time though, I've been watching these guys for most of my life at various local air shows over the years and their performances have always been immaculate, particularly when I saw them in Jersey 2 years ago. Great shame.
