I was wondering how many of u gamers use a router and if it affects gameplay also could u recomend a good router for me?
thanx.

I have a Linksys router, with 8 ethernet ports. It works just as well as without.

I use SMC Barricade router/firewall/wlan-station and I used to have a problem with occasional choke when using it in HL2 related games but havent got that in a long time. Dunno if the reason was afterall the router but I never had choke without it.
Excluding that, its great.

I use a Linksys Router. No problems here.
Unless you want to set up a server that is. Then you have to open some ports, but thats easy enough.

I use a router and had never had problems. 4 ports on mine- all hooked up.

Linksys or D-Link are both great buys. If you shop carefully you can get a great 4-port switch/router/firewall for around 50 bucks (US).

I have had absolutely no problems with my D-Link and online games as a client. (Halo, xbox live, HL2 all work great).

Speaking of which, do you know what ports those are offhand?

=o

Netgear here, and no problems. One or two choke on CSS, but that's a new problem and therefore can't be the router.

routers are better if you have more than one computer, or a PS2/Xbox/Gamecube to hook up, then they get really handy.
