I've heard a lot of good ideas for expansions, from playing the "one week" where you are missing from the perspective of Barney or a random resistance soldier, to playing Alyx throughout the game, etc... I haven't heard of this before so sorry if its already been mentioned.
What about playing the 7-hour war from years earlier from the POV of Barney or Alyx (or even someone else)? We could see the initial bombings of the earth from the combine with the head-crab rockets and rural areas getting over-run (more Ravenholm style play), the portal storms, cities being over-run, the first invasion of the combine troops, etc. We could visit Kraken perhaps - maybe they could make it the base where mossman and Eli and them worked after Black Mesa before being moved into hiding in City 17. Maybe get the Borealis in there and the Hydra and whatever. It could expound on what happen between Gordon's absence and we could learn more details of that time period and the events that happen. Learn more about the characters - mossman, Alyx, Eli, Kleiner. Anyway, just another thought for an expansion pack.
