smod problems

i just installed smod from a zip file into my hl2 folder..and put all the files in the correct places..now i have no idea what to do..i tried to enter give weapon_lasergun and the other like banana and it doesnt work!! help!

The whole SMOD folder goes in steamapps/sourcemods and it shows up as a selectable mod on your games tab.

extract it to the addons folder, then look in your steam my games list, find it, fire it up, kill zombies with bannanas, run with scissors and other thrilling activities not for the faint hearted.
alternativly, go sleep.
