Secret was that the original CS team had joined Valve, and were producing the Multiplayer component CounterStrike:Source.

the secret was the game wouldnt be ready for over a year :/

edit: the dutch magazine had the "surprise about multiplayer" but it was a "bad surprise" ie there was no hl2 themed mp.
