I think the correct pronunciation is combine.
also, brace yourself for a viscious flaming for making this thread, I'd run for the hills if I were you.

i wouldn't worry im sure they'll be able to take a few pathetic insults.

That would be cramping the combines style.

Combine singular, Combine plural, Combine's possessive... yep, doesn't change.

It's not as if it matters, I just find it mildy annoying, like people that persist in saying "Legos".

You mean tha't not how you say Lego plural?

*Slaps self on forehead*

And it's Combine. "The combine are taking over"

But you wouldn't say "look it's a combine" Combine is the name of the... organisation.

You would say "combine soldier" or "combine gunship" or whatever you are referring to.

Yeah, exactly. "Combine forces" is fine, but saying "I SHOT A COMBINE" kind of annoys me. Unless you're talking about an Overseer or higher power, but we're still not sure what kind of hierachy they have.

...man, I'm petty.

Extremely petty. Beyond belief actually, I think you're lying.

I realized how much of an annoyance it was when moonquake's map post.. "Combines" was in there nine times.

The combines were so fken annoying though i like when the police were killed and there radio went off, but the combines did nothing

What did the big famer say to the little famer?
"Look at all my combines

Combines Combines Combines Combines!!!!!!!!!! :O

Hmm... combines seems fit. since you fight groups of them.

No. It isn't fit.

That's like saying "We need some more resistances" instead of "resistance fighters"

'Combine' is a verb. And in this case it is used as a title. There is no such thing as "A combine"

Sigh.

Cuban cigars. One Cuban. Two Cubans.

Danish pastries. One Danish. Two Danishes.

We battled the Danish, numerous as they were.

Combine soldiers. One combine. Two combines.

The word Combine in Half-Life 2 is collective noun, when reffering to many, you say Combine. The only way you can say it with a number in front is if you specify what kind of Combine. For example, the poster above said "Two combines". I think the correct way to say that would be to say, "Two Combine Soliders". That way seems to be more correct. Plus it just sounds really werid/dumb if you say "Combines" with emphasis on the first syllable (which is how its pronounced in HL2).

combine
n 1: harvester that heads and threshes and cleans grain while
moving across the field
2: a consortium of independent organizations formed to limit
competition by controlling the production and distribution
of a product or service; "they set up the trust in the
hope of gaining a monopoly" [syn: trust, corporate
trust, cartel]
3: an occurrence that results in things being united [syn: combining]

You might be confused by the differing pronunciations. As a verb, it's combine, where as a noun, it's combine, with emphasis on the italics.

Please everyone! Stop using the derogatory term for our Benefactors.

As Dr Breen says
"the Universal Union, who small minds call the Combine"

So there you go, it's the Univeral Union who are our Benefactors.

Pics of what?

And yeah correct term for plural members of the Universal Union is Combine.
