My friend just owned me at online starcraft... twice. It's so long since I've played that I now suck. I played as Terran both times, and I seemed to spend all my time building units at my base and then he comes in with a somehow bigger army and destroys me completely. Anyone got any good tactics/advice on how to win?

What maps you guys playing?

-Anyway for the most part never stop building SCV's. If you find you have to many expand.
-Scout him out.
-If you want to play a little defense as terran go for some vespene gas quickly. Get some siege tanks + bunks and try to block off all entrance ways into your base.
-Else pull out a ton of marines/fbats/medics quickly. Do tank pushes into his base. Medics + Marines + Tanks = Pwnage until air units.
-If he's rushing you really quickly with Zerg pull out some marines quick or try to get to fbats and whip them out.

-Also heres a neat tactic. Get his units to try to attack one of your units. Move this unit around your defenses your his units spend there time trying to catch one of your units while your defenses just pwn them.

Force size and strength and mean little especially when tactics\tactical units come into the mix.

I can't remember what the map was called. I'll try some of your suggestions, thanks. So is it better to build loads of SCV's when you start or just to try to get as many marines out as possible? I seem to have quite a few units defending my base but he just comes in with a rush and wipes them out.

Have a good level between them.

Build a scv this turn of 50 minerals..maybe a marine the next 50 minerals. Something like that. Be sure to be upgradeing durig all of this. You have to keep teching up.

What does your other friend usually play as. This is incredibly important. Tactics that work against zerg may get you slaughtered if you played a protoss/terran.

First time he played as Terran and second he played as Zerg. I put up a better defense the second time but he seemed to just have more advanced units than me and stuff.

Be sure to tech quickly. Thats a major thing.
Starcraft can be a bit overwhelming. At the same time you have to be expanding your minerals, vespene gas, tech, and build up an army. A lot of it deals with knowing how to spend your minerals.

Post a replay or something against a comp and i'll try and give you a few pointers.

I usually have about 5 SCVs at the beginning at least
I get Vespene Gas after I start producing Marines

( I have about 10 SCVs getting minerals at that time )

I play as Terran mostly. At first, I just build lots of SCV's to get my minerals. Course, in the middle, I'll send 2-3 to the base entrance to build a barracks and supply depots, to start up meh barricades. Then I'll start building marines and bunkers, which can usually hold of any early attacks (repairs are something I love about the Terran). While those are being set up, I'll get vespene gas and a few machine shop things and start building several tanks for the entrance and some loveable, huggable goliaths. Then I start with my star ports and a science thing, also building turrets to help goliaths in any air attacks. Once the new buildings are set up, I start slowly building up meh cruisers...

The Terran have great defensive capabilities, but if you're focusing on the offense, it's easy to take some heavy hits if you get jumped. That's why with them, I go on the defensive until I have a cruiser fleet.

... course, I really just explained what I like to do, so it probably didn't give you all that much help.

Never stop building the peon units
If you have extra resources, you aren't building near enough..always have not enough.
The most important note is: The best defense is the best offense.
Use strategy. The most of one type of unit won't cut it. If he is using zealots, use firebats. If he is using reavers, get some wraiths. If he is going carrier, just laugh at him with your goliaths. There is always a counter, it's just up to you to figure out what it is before he gets there.

go FAST FAST FAST FAST

what pitzy says is right. if you have extra resources, you're not going fast enough

Hell, of course I know, I was taught by one of the best :P

Update: I've been playing multiplayer matches and getting pwned even on noob servers. But each time I get less and less pwned, so I think I'm improving. I just need to get good enough to destroy my friend.

Good! Practice makes perfect. Get a good build order down. And always remember to expand, and when the Command Center is done, send some of the peons out to the expansion.

Otherwise get really good at a UMS game and dominate him in that :).

I rock in Dodge the Rapists, Civilization Emerald(Favorite map of all time), Diplo Gold(5.02b - 7 versions).

I've taught many people Civilization Emerald....such a fun map. Theres just so many ways to play.

I was never any good starcraft, its way too fast paced for me, and it lacks the automation to handle all the stuff at once, so its just micromanagement.

I absolutley loved the game though, I just sucked at it.

So will I, with both of you.

And it's best to practice with one team and get a good build order down and early strat. Zerg are probably the easiest.

Although I personally would say Protoss easiest, Zergs the middle, and Terrans the hardest.

Thats just why you have to love Starcraft..it's different for everybody. The races are so balanced and diverse that it comes down to the player and the player thinks and understands the race.

I agree that Terran are hardest, but Protoss are not easy for starting player in my experience because you have to work fast to get Zealots. After that, yeah, they're easiest, if you know how to rush correctly at the beginning.

If we are going to organize a game, hit me up. I definately want to join.

Hey, I wanna play too........wait nm I suck at all RTS games.

I'd probably rush you with my command center.......

If you ever wanna piss off your teammates. Thats what you do. Mass an enemy with SCV's right away.

Haha, I remember me and a friend joined a "The Hunters" game..and it was 1v1v1 FFA. So we went..and I allied with my friend, but then "secretly" joined an alliance with the other guy, saying how we need to kick that other guys ass. Well...I ended up massing a shitload of Cannons in front of his base and what not..he was flipping out. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?" I was reassuring him it was for his protection, and that if I die, I'll be fine here....He bought it. Well, when he started to throw his tanks/marines through my cannon field, I unallied, and my cannons ripped him apart, then my Zealots rushed in and finished him off....

Boy was he pissed. But I had a good laugh.

I love Civ maps, specially the world ones. Also some secret maps that were never released to the public, prolly the best games ever.. forgot what it was called though, like.. coin something something. Confusing at first, but If you play your cards right youll be taking over the universe! w00t!
I played with my friend once, me Toss him Zerg, I am a total noob, so I like to mass photon cannons. so, any attempt at ground attack fails. From out of NOWHERE a crapload of mutes come and He rips me apart. Just after I had finished my 3rd carrier (They jsut look so god-danged cool!) And I died. Fast.

I also used to RP sometimes, but now I understand everyone is 7 and that no one can play a RP maturely.

I'd like to play with you guys. Someone pm me if we get something planned.

I use to RP when it was just coming out and was huge. I was really good at it. Me, Alarius-Blade, Sw-Dragons_Bane, and Minerals all use to play Sw-Dragons_Bane Rp map. He had the best one and kept it between us. Really sweet Sc games back then.

ZERG RUSH KEKEKEKEKEKEKEEKEKKEKEKEKE

Just had an awesome 4-way multiplayer with my friends. It lasted 2 hours. Starcraft + skype + scheming and making alliances + omg zerg rush = win. This game's like chess, but with more explosions.

How the hell did I miss this thread?

Terran:

Against protoss: Use mechanical units. Or mostly mechanical. Goliaths work very well for everything, and cost cheap.

Against zerg: Marines. Tons of marines. And medics. If the guy's using zerglings, then get the firebats to melt them down for you.

General: BLOCK THE GODDAMN EXIT FIRST!

General 2: GET THAT DAMN COMSAT.

General 3: Be aware of your enemy's tactics. If you spot a fleet beacon, then it would be a very, very good idea to build goliaths.

General 4: The more the better.

General 5: Sometimes, it's a good idea to devide your forces, and attack simulataneously, and your enemy will not be able to block you.
