i was just thinking striders didnt get as big a section that they deserved in hl2 does any one agree?

I think personally they would have only deserved a bigger part in the game if the actual game was bigger.

It was very nicely balanced. Striders are big and powerful, so it suits that their appearances were in the levels where there was big, full-scale combat vs. the Combine. You also got to fight a Strider, to fight a group of Striders, to hide from them - so I'd say it was a very nice balance of their appearances.

I think they could have have been in the game a bit more. One of my defining moments in HL2 was when you are trying to enter the Nexus building and these two Striders are glomping around and I remember crouching down in one of the craters waiting for the perfect time to dash out and get some more ammo. Tense!

i only wish that the strider bink video was part of the game :(

I was kinda dissapointed by their small section of the game as well as how easy it was to take one down. When I saw the BINK I was one of many who had the words 'holy shit, holy shit" repeating in my mind. Instead of having six of them pop up instantaneously the first time you fight Valve should have them come one by one to make them feel more significant. But they nevertheless did manage to crush my stupid teamates that kept running up to them.

I think we got enough of them. There must have been about 12 you fight in all...

6 in Plaza (tbh there were a lot of them and I lost count)
1 in Tunnel
4 in approach to Citadel wall
1 inside the Citadel

What was disappointing was that you just rocketed them to death. I think most people envisaged them as HL1 style "puzzle bosses" that you trip up Star Wars style :)

Yeah, some more 'puzzly' battles with Striders would have been cool.

Tell you what would have really rocked though. A Strider in the Nova Prospekt level, with a spotlight. Not one that you'd be able to destroy, just that you'd have to hide from/escape.

Also, Striders along the coast would have looked cool but I don't know where they would have put them in.

they could have put thm on the road leading from new little odessa and the idea of the nova prospekt striders would be exelent
:stare:

Striders sucked, to be honest. I was horribly disappointed while reading in the strat guide that it only took a few rockets to take them out.

Much of the prerelease discussion revolved around the idea that there was some fancy means of taking them down.

Oh well. :(

maybe ramming one with a buggy would trip it and disable for a few seconds before it could regain it's balance

i felt like i was in the war of the worlds fighting tripods when in nexus building level 0_o

I loved them but I wish they were more majestic and graceful rather than stupidly heavy.

Striders and gunships, we need see that combo, it would be a lot more fun and it would provide a descent chalenge, I also really like fighting them as a team, so sven coop will rock!

Striders are already plenty hard to kill, no sense in making them impossible :p

Speaking of Sven Co-Op, any new news with them lately?

It was fun watching them, but fighting them was horribly annoying.

as in bigger open levels

Yeah, i think they could have had a slightly bigger part, in the end of 'follow freeman', where the poeple finally bring them down in the big battle, on the rooftops.

But anyway looking on, i think that a couple wouldnt hurt, a few that survived the uprising, but no more because the citadel where they are made and all of city17 is destroyed.

A few for some rocket action:thumbs:

I was hoping for something like swing a pendulem at them, blasting off it's legs then shooting repeatedly at a tiny weak spot, or using a HUGE electro magnet to pick them up and dropping them and not just using guided missiles.

Yeah, there wasnt that many striders in the overall game, but the last level was crawling with them

You mean all two? :p

Striders weren't interesting enough gameplay-wise to have a bigger appearance. All you could do was unload rockets into them. :/

The Strider pre-release BINK would have been a far more fitting first appearance imo, as they were now they fine with a lot more potential than they showed in-game.

Yeah, in a way it's a pity they didn't appear as a sort of indestructible boss-level creature- i.e., forcing a strategic withdrawl and maybe some kind of simple puzzle element because you (and possibly your squad) have nothing that can take it down easily...

Take the Strider in the Citadel, for example- admittedly it went down quickly because of the dark matter on hand, but it was pretty damn cool fighting towards it...
