I have not played since the new update with "train"
but will any bots be coming any time? for dm
eta?

Are there bots in DM now or what?
Someone should have said something by now!
I dont want to download it again unless there are bots, it runs slower than css over the net! (servers or me?).

No bots for DM yet, if there even make bots for DM.

Who needs bots when you have the whole internet to fight with ^_^.

Too much work programming them to use the gravity gun, wont happen.

I think there is a thread on this already, and we decided between us that it takes too much coding for the bots + grav gun.
And yeah, DM is a lot laggier than CSS. Its cos of the physics I hear.

lol, did you just make that up or is their a source?

Some things are obvious enough with out some one having to tell you it officially.

Who says bots can't use the gravity gun? If you've ever fiought the vagary in Doom 3 you'd know that its quite possible for AI to recognize and use physics objects.

No one said any thing about it not being possible, we just said its every unlikely that valve would but lots of time in it just to get some bots to work. And i don't blame them, well me be not when they fixed some more bugs. :)

A lot of scripting, though. And it would make the servers too laggy.

Dont they know how to recognise stuff on the ground? They seem to get around it if you put barrels in the way in CSS.

If they can see the crap on the ground in CSS the only difference is they have to pick it up and throw in DM?

The bots should just be shit with the grav and use better guns as soon as they get them.

Precisely, only reasons I can think of for wanting bots is either you've got a horrible online bug or dial-up, or maybe all of the above. :O

Question: "I dont want to download it again unless there are bots, it runs slower than css over the net! (servers or me?)."
-From the first post

Like i said, it runs slower than css over the net so i dont play it as much.
Bots may still come out (it's not impossible) but i may have to LAN it for a few years before that happens ;0)

Much of the code is already there - zombies etc. throw stuff at you in-game.

Besides, as long as the server has a half-decent processor all clients see is netcode, no processing required; so there's not really a lag issue.

Why do we need the bots to use their Gravity Gun? Hell, they'd fit the budget (for me, atleast) if they could use the objects as cover and use weapons strategically. :smoking:

They could just use a decision tree and such for it... Like if they have an RPG they won't bother using the gravity gun, but if they are out of ammo, then they would use the gravity gun...

I just say make decent DM bots first, then worry about enabling them to use the gravity gun second...

BTW I see a lot of ppl in this thread talkin' out of their ass :P If a server has a good CPU, then it won't cause too much of an increase in performance... They won't use as many cpu cycles as CS bots, because they won't have to worry about squad tactics and finding bombs and securing hostages, but they would just have one goal, to kill other players...

So for the CS bot it would do a series of checks for both enemy/friendly and then decide what to do (and then to activate which tactic and use it in the squad and communicate)... HL2DM bots would just look for enemies and weapons, and then kill enemy and search for health/ammo/armor/new, better weapons

It is certainly possible.... Nothing is impossible in coding, it's just that some things are harder to implement than others...
