wall picture props take level down 10 fps. what?

i finally managed to get a steady 70fps at a problematic area in a heavily brush modeled area. but now when i add 6 pictures(from cs_office) on the wall, it goes down to 60fps looking from the same spot.

how can this be? these are the only mdls ive added in the map so far, + they are freakin pictures, were talking, what, 12 triangles each? now they have cubemaps on them too, but that couldn't be it could it? also, they aren't even sleeping prop physics MP, just dynamic overrides, totally motionless. ugh
 
I have the same problem. In a seemingly random way, if I go real close to some props and stare directly at them my framerate takes a plunge. The corrugated metal sheets seem to be very consistent in this. I would suggest cubemaps/reflections/shaders as a possible reason, but as you said, what you have are only boxes. Who knows ...
 
well i made copies of these materials and took out the cubemaps so that they were just plain jane textures, and i think that did it, although i also just made them decals to be safe. but i have my 10 frames back. strange though.
