I've been searching for tutorials and those I've found does'nt explain why the fog only covers a piece of the area that is selected and not the entire area.
It's difficult to make this fog or smoke look good and realistic but it is just amazing and it does'nt create fps drops aslong as it's used correctly.
1. Use the brush tool and cover the whole area where you want the fog/smoke to be.
2. Apply the texture "nodraw" to this brush
3. Move the selected to an entity, clicking "toEntity"
4. Add func_smokevolume to the selected entity.
Now if you use default settings the smoke will most likely not cover the area you selected, just a piece of it.
So you have to increase the particle draw width and the particle spacing distance, to make the fog cover a bigger area
Try this and add the following settings to the func_smokevolume
