If this is considered a spoiler or whatever, then delete it mods. But I remember hearing about welding in the game, from the leaked 2 yr old alpha. I dont want to discuss it in anyway, just do you think it is in the final version?

The only thing I can say for sure is that I agree with your sig.

welding?

Thats kind of neat... I guess.

I believe it was taking out because of some problems.

See that little blue search button at the top of the page?
Click it. See what happens.

In a nutshell, no, we do not think it will be in the final version. It's not needed...

Sry for not using the search button. I check these forums everyday and dont remember any like this, so I created a new thread. Not the end of the world = \

No its not needed at all, but it sounds fun! Just as a trampoline is not needed in your yard...yet, its fun.

You check the forum everyday? But.. you joined this month.. So what about all the time before you joined? Yep.

Also, there would be no realistic way to do it. Welding in real life takes time, and its just not as easy to replicate in a video game. Too much work for nothing.

Also, you can edit your posts to add on to it by clicking the "Edit" button in the bottom right of your post.

Man. That was a feature I was really looking forward to (have heard about it in the beta, but haven't played it). It seemed like such a cool idea. Way to go valve. At least they still have the manipulator in the game.

As useless as it would be from a... uh... well, utilitarian perspective I thought the device simply dubbed the "Welder" would've been a welcome aspect of the HL2 experience. Hell, in MP it would've been even more interesting...

I used it in the leak (god forbid :dozey: :stare:  ), very cool feature. But I think they got rid of the gun that made use of it :o

Someone will probably mod it in or something.

Urgh. If I hear that one more time I'm going to do something pointless and dramatic (I didn't want to say "kill someone" or "scream" again). Valve themselves started the trend of course...

"Will there be enemies in HL2?" "No; could be modded in."

"Will HL2 have any friendly NPCs?" "No; could be modded in."

"Will HL2 have any enviroments...?" "No; could be modded in."

"Will HL2 even constitute as a game after all the content cuts?" "No..."

"Don't say it. Is this even a real interview or am I talking to a robot?!" "No; could be modded in."

lol, I was about to write the same exact thing.

It really feels like HL2 has only been in development for the past couple years. They've cut the hydra and now the welding aspect of the game. Rather disappointing.

Yea, but if a modder got a hold of the leak it wouldn't be very hard to implement into the final game I wouldn't think !

I know where you're coming from though, heh. Good post.

I expect the mods for halflife2 to be like nothing we have ever seen.

Just because the entire halflife mod community is going to move to it, plus everyone working on other games has to be tempted...

I expect there to be full, awesome, mods out in 4 months.
And features "modded in" in 2 weeks.

Bit longer than 4 months, I'd say 6-8 months before you start to see anything decent. You are also assuming that the SDK comes out right away. According to Valve the SDK was in the hands of select mod groups in September 2003. :/

Why do we have to add the features we want? Shouldn't Valve have the responsibility of finish adding the features in the game?

You would think so, but I don't think Valve has an abundence of time.

CS: Source is "virtual living" proof of this. *cough* same two models *cough*

Among many things.

Yeah, it was really cool in the leak, it was used from the gun that you say in e32k3 tech vid, prim fire let out a manipulating beam, alt fire put a glob of weld, attach 2 globs, 1 object.

It was pretty fun in the leak. One time I attached a large sheet of metal to the passenger's side of the buggy, and then put a plank of wood with two tires as sort of a super bumper on the front of the thing. I also found out that a couple of barrels attached to a wall made for an awesome sort of "whipping" device where you would pull it back and send it flying into the face of some unlucky enemy. Good fun!

Have no fear, I'm sure if it's not a dormant console command, then it will be.....MODDED IN!

This "feature" was never a true part of the game... The weapon that is used for the feature (Blue Physics Laser) was mentioned as not going to be in the game, all the way back in Summer of 2003. I highly doubt they ever intended to have that ability in the singleplayer game and since HL2 has no multiplayer.. Well, there you go. :)

It's mostly just a toy for developers to mess with the physics. I'd wager it's going to be left in the code and will be accessible with cheats. Easier to leave it in than to try and delete it.

this is the best, go to wide open maps like iv_ufo(fanmade) get the sticky launcher(notinthefullgame) cover(and i mean COVER) a barrel or matress with globs of boom, detonate and watch :)

I hope I don't get in trouble for this or anything - but someone I know sent these pictures to me ages ago - it took me a long time to find them!

I think this is what you are talking about, looked like it might have been fun if they left it in, oh well.

lol@that

What were they thinking? Why not leave something that cool in the actual game? What's the harm in having it there?
