hi everyone
I have received HL2 as a gift in the holidays and i have almost completed it easy difficulty, i have yet to destroy the guy in the ball, but i just dont know what to do and it lags like hell. (my computer does not even have a video card strong enough for the game, its a level directX 6 card. but it just lags a lot in a couple of places in the game and when there is a lot of action. and my visual "range" is about 30m for useless objects and ulimited for usefull ones (ammo crate and explosive barrels).. i dont hear speech if they come from a "video")
HL2 is great. I mean.. cmon.. Ragdoll, realistic characters, cool enemies, allies, good storyline, AMAZING places (the citadel is really something) and the gravity gun.
The poison headcrab. I just freak out when i see one. i hate it, and i like it because this is the only thing that is REALLY dangerous. The "poison crab mother zombie" is almost unkillable..
The gunship ability to intercept our rockets is one great intelligently used ability... damn i hate the gunships.
The white troopers armor is cool for some reason. maybe because when you look at it, it feels like "deathsquad"..
Sole bug: In city 17, just before we meet barney and dog there are two transports that carry striders. both were hovering over the street with their cargo, and both were blocked because of the other one. I simply shooted rockets until i blew up the two defenseless striders under them.
i just love antlions when they work for me.
Manhacks are fun.
Scripted events are a lot of fun.
the combines presence. they are cool.
boxes of infinite goodies. They open a lot of opportunities.
Some of our allies animations are really something to watch.. especially when this one medic girl was happy after she killed a combine ( she made some " i f**** up this soldier") lol
The shotgun is the best weapon. even with its reduced clip capacity.
i never used the colt except for opportunity one-hit-kill.. for a total of 4 kills.
i never used a sawblade against a combine.... i must try.
the things that i found disapointing:
The combine tendency to run to fight in melee with zombies/antlionguard/us when they can stay far and bring it down.
the combine tendency to die in a single hit from the antlion.
the combine tendency to throw themselves in suicidal situations where they could easily have the upper hand.
..well.. the combine tendency to not care about their lives.
the diversity of ennemies is quite small...
There are no worthy combine infantry.. even the white ones that just get to shoot the "plasma" balls as an extra (easily avoidable) are not that much harder.. just a BIT more armor and accuracy.
The only time i was near death was in the prison when something like 50 combine soldiers trap us and come in waves of 2-3.. (can we use the turrets to help us here?!)
No assasin? No assasiness?? Cmon!! Where is that ultra fast and agile gun-using intelligent always-running-away enemy?
The combine dont use thier grenades enough (the marines did a great job at this in HL1) , and they miss often. (killing themselve..maybe because i did it on easy) most nades are scripted events and not avoidable. So many times a single grenade could have spelled death to me.
The combine dont use their tanks. They just dont use them. I mean: there that outside places of the boat part where they miss, or when we got the gun on it and the 2 tanks are like butter against a pulse machinegun, in later city 17 and the coast there are tanks everywhere and they are not used.. but the combine could get in and support their allies or simply shoot us.
AND we cannot fight tanks with our rocket-lancher because of this. Same thing with the copter, where is it in the latter city 17?
the Antlionguard should get more attack moves where it could actually hit us (dunno make it punch us on its side rather than charging in a wall..). this ennemy is sooooo easy to avoid. The antlion is much harder to avoid.
The dunebuggey is really hard to replace in position and it needs more stability.
Our allies dont follow orders. and they get in our way most of the time, stay immobile in the open while being shooted at rather than hide.
lot of bad points you might think, but they are not that bad, i noticed them when i stopped playing and started thinking about what i saw. I still think that HL2 is a great game, but they can improve these points.
