what I understand is going on. Am I right or wrong?

Right. The combine is from a place unknown. Their purpose is obvioulsy to invade other places and use their technology.

Then there is Xen. where most of the half life creatures are from.

The combine invaded Xen and enslaved the aliens there. Hence why the Vortigaunts where called slaves in half life 1.

Then earth arrives in xen by accident. And the mess up at black mesa means the combine using xen aliens and technology start to invade.

Hearth takes control of xen hence why the vorgaunnotes are on our side in halfe life 2

in the time between half life 1 and 2 the combine manages to invade earth and half life 2 starts.

The combine is using human technology to build an army and plans to in invade further worlds with that new technology.

how I came to that conclusion:

1) Vaurtigauts where called slaves in half life 1
2) The nialath, says he is a slave in half life 1
3) The nialath is the same species as the other creatures as he as a third arm coming out of his belly.
4) At the begining of half life 1 it is clear that just randome matter is being thrown into black mesa. But later it obvioulsy becomes an invasion. with air support and drop ships from the xen creatures.

the biggest proof to my theory:
in xen in half life one, if you remeber the vourganots are looking after barrels on a conveyor belt. this barrels contained those big hornet gun creatures used to invade hearth. which looked remarkably like the pods used in half life 2 to carry the humans around in the citadel.

In half life 1. all of the xen technology is organic based. but in half life 2 all the combine technology is metal looking based and well suited for humans to use. So depending which world they are in the combine uses that technologie to take control.

all the random creatures in half life 1 and 2, were just a side affect from the two invasions. but on each occasions obviously used to the advantage of the combine to desimate hearth forces.

Then there is Xen. where most of the half life creatures are from.

After this you got it wrong m'afraid.

Xen was actually a refuge where the Vortis and various other creatures escaped from the Combine. Nihilianth took control of the Vortis and enslaved them. The Portal storm drew creatures from Xen to Earth and made the combine notice us. They attacked and seven hours later they had won. The combine is a vast interdimensional empire, and they absorb technology and biological creatures from species they conquer to form new weapons (such as the striders). They do not come from Xen, and in most likelihood have never been to Xen, as they lack the local teleportation technology that humanity has. Xen is a border-world, a place you have to go on the way when you want to locally teleport. Since the combine can't locally teleport, it's a good hiding spot. Earth has never seized control of Xen, the Vortigaunts just decided they liked us alot better than Nihilanth and the Combine (For one, we don't make them wear those collars, and also we liberated them by killing Nihilanth.).

PS: I don't mind you not being able to spell Vortigaunt, it's not a common english word, but once you picked one, stay with it for at least a post man. For future reference: VORTIGAUNT NIHILANTH

ic. well your story seemes to be accepted by everybody, as far as I can work out. But how did people get to that conclusion?

secondly I think my story sounds better lol. Especialy according to your story, Xen invaded, then the combine, not forgeting race x. Its getting a bit repetitive.

and finaly it clearly says at the end of half-life one. "xen is under our control now, thanks to you".

It's not so much Xen invaded as things were pulled from Xen to here without wanting to.

And you are assuming the g-man means humanity when he says "Our control". I wouldn't be so presumptuous if I were you. ;)
