what makes it so different from nuclear energy or wadever..?

what does it use to generate energy out of?

Its pulling the universe apart, stretching it...or vice verse...i cant remember...so take what i just said with a grain of salt

It is a hypothetical form of energy, first and foremost. Its main characteristic is that it has negative pressure, resulting in something sorta opposite of gravity. Dark energy is used to explain "missing mass" in Universe sometimes, and is still being researched.

The thing is, dark energy would cause the universe to accelrate instead of slowing down - and acceleration is what is currently being observed. Theoretically, it might eventually pull the Universe apart.

Yeah, dark energy is basically the same thing as Einstein's "cosmological constant", which he included in his equations to account for the speed of the inflation of our universe. At the time, he though it was his biggest mistake, because he couldn't see how it could be connected to reality, and he basically pulled it out of his ass to make relativity work. However, modern physicists have tried to remove it from his equations, but without success... so we assume there is indeed a "cosmological constant", or "dark energy"... but we know nothing about it. I guess the Combine figured it out.

Not to be confused with "dark matter", which is in theory responsible for the fact that the inflation of our universe falls short of our predictions... so we are either wrong, or there is extra matter in the universe we cannot see. Quite a lot of it, actually. We can also see the effects of it right here in our own galaxy, as the speeds at which stars orbit the center strongly suggest that other, "invisible" mass is present.

Yes, dark matter is also purely theoretical, and is matter that can only be observed by gravitational and such effects, but can not be seen itself. Interesting, actually!
