Honestly after playing the Left 4 Dead 2 demo and seeing some of the criticism surrounding Left 4 Dead 2 and Episode 3, I think valve should have completed Episode 3 first and then started working on Left 4 Dead. They could then have spent more time on Left 4 Dead and instead of releasing all the material in two games just condense all into just one Left 4 Dead game, all the levels from both games, combined with all the available weapons, which would make it look more similar to Left 4 Dead 2. Left 4 Dead 1 would only then live on as what the series was originally like before they changed it....much how Half Life 2 Raising the Bar shows a Longer Story and a Darker more Trippy world then what the actual Half LIfe 2 game turned out to be

You haven't a clue about Game design..
First Left4Dead was made by Turtle Rock which Valve bought out near completion of L4D. That studio has nothing to do with Half-Life whatsoever. Also there becomes a time where you have to ship a game, you have to set yourself a cut-off point otherwise you'll never finish you would find more and more to add. Look at Half-Life 2 and all the stuff that was cut from it, it was simply to big. Also don't forget that alot of L4D2 features came from L4D feedback such as moving finales and the Spitter and Charger to prevent camping.

Valve has multiple teams not everyone is working on Left4Dead 2, some are working on TF2 and some are working on EP3. The thing alot of people forget is that Half-Life is a very complex game. For example it has a lot of animations those dialogues take alot of time to perfect and the pacing, story and battles are tweaked very carefully where as Left4Dead is controlled by the AI director and is quicker to add more content. Episode 3 is the final of the Half-Life 2 story arch and has a alot to live up to and Valve knows this and are taking there time.

yeah that makes a lot of sense. I remember Gabe saying many times that they created Left 4 Dead 2 because they just had so many ideas because they played the original so much. If both Turtle Rock and Valve had decided to wait a while before releasing Left 4 Dead they could have improved and added those ideas and could have improved the graphics, weapon, and campaign that basically is Left4Dead2.

I remember hearing somewhere Gabe talking about one of Valve's major concerns being the lack of consumer feedback of their products because it takes so long to make each game. I think if they didn't worry so much about taking the extra year or two on making some of their games...they could have at least avoided some of the recent problems they have been having.

Both of you make my head hurt.

I think Bill first said they should take longer, and then said they were taking too long.

Uh.

meh, i think l4d1 is fine, but maybe if they'd done ep3 after that and THEN l4d2, it wouldve been a lot smoother.

lol sorry its so confusing guys!

I am just saying valve and turtle rock should have spent more time on Left 4 Dead 1 before they released it. They rushed it and didn't have enough time to put a lot of their ideas in the game. If they did, I feel that the Left 4 Dead 1 game they would have released would have looked similar to Left 4 Dead 2.

Gabe and other valve people have said they created Left 4 Dead 2 because they just had SO much ideas and things they wanted to do right after releasing Left 4 Dead that it would be easier to release it as a new game then downloadable expansion material. Basically if they had waited a year or two most of that would have been incorporated into Left 4 Dead 1.

Sorry its confusing...I hope I cleared it up.

Rule # 1 - Never question Valve. Failure to do so will result in a sacking.
