Where does the train come from?

I havent played the black mesa yet, but I have really been wondering on where the train is coming from when we come to City 17 in the start. G-man says something about dozing off at work or something. Maybe I'm just dont understand it coz I havent played BM yet. Could you all try to help me out maybe?
