I haven't posted here in a loong time, so here's a zombie about to bite some dude.

It says semi-work-in-progress because I still need to add a background and the finer details like dust, dirt and bloodspray. Because of the unfinishedness, any criticism and/or advice could very well impact the final product.

This is also probably going to be a promotional image for CAUSE AND EFFECT survival horror mod. So check out the convenient link in my sig and act as though it was the drawing that made you click. :P

Looks very good. :D There's only one thing I need to say and that's the lack of color. It's a little bland like someone overlayed a low opacity layer of white on to the image.

That should easily be fixed with some messing around with the Levels though.

The guy looks too calm. I mean he's got a crazed zombie coming at him like a bat out of hell. and he looks soo calm. I would have made him gripping the pistol firmer, right now it looks like it's just hanging off his hand. I also agree with the colors bing to bland. :)

but it looks pretty dam good :) I'd like to see a zombie game where the zombies aren't slow and dumb, but faster and more agressive.

In my opinion, bland colours suit a zombie fight scene; and the only way to survive against zombies would to be calm anyway. I mean, if you run around screaming "AARRGGH", or shivering in a corner, you're not gonna last very long.

The actual picture looks amazing. The zombie is the centre of attention, and her pose is certainly striking; as well as terrifying. And I love the way you haven't made her clothes pointlessly decayed and tattered; I mean, how do zombies get their clothes in such a state when all they do is walk around?

I agree with Suicide. I think the bland colors lend a more dark and gloomy feel to it, which is what a world populated by zombies should feel like.

I also think that he looks the sure-in-battle kind of calm, but I agree with Natan that perhaps his grip on the pistol ought to be a bit more firm and readied.

Stack me, Mecha, I didn't realise you were so good!

I'd say the guy looks a little fresh, too, as if he's only just reached puberty, but that could just be your style. Something to do with the soft edges to his face.

Seeing people like you do pictures really does show that the position of Concept Artist actually can have a lot of prestige. Almost makes me want to do my mod with a team instead of just me, and have you do some art.

Cool, glad to see responses.

The colouring is bland-ish because I think it suits the gloomy mood the mod is going for (It's set in britain, so that's also a factor :P).

The final product will be much less bland though, since I usually tweak the contrast and values to look more real in the post-production stage. So the darks will be darker and the colours at least slightly more vibrant.
Also, I don't think I had fully transparentized the sketch overlay I was using as a guide, so there is, in fact, a low-opacity layer of white over it. Good call, Shens.

As for the loose grip thing and the lack of horrifiedness, I was trying to make it seem as though he was caught off guard and unable to react. So he is calm, but this is the exact milisecond that he realizes there's a zombie.

I was thinking of possibly having the zombie breaking through a door or something to emphasize the unexpectedess, but I figured it might mess up the focus.
Either that, or I'll add smoke to the gun to make it seem as though he just turned around after shooting another zombie, only to find this new one up in his face.
The hand is actually photo-referenced from an person who had just stopped shooting.

The face is also partly photo-refed. I chose a younger slightly chubby guy to contrast the zombie and make her seem more skeletal and muscular by comparison.

Thanks!

Oh, I forgot to ask about the background. I was thinking a london-type side street, but I can't quite decide. Any suggestions?

Parking garage. You know, one of the big ones.

Okay. 4th time. Boss looking at me funny. DAMN IT.

edit:In case you don't understand, Suicide, that was ****ing hilarious and I'm laughing hysterically.

It's...it's too horrible...I...I can't look...

Shens garage idea:

Just a random ravenholm background, I think it suits quite well:

ZOMG VADER

/me cries

What have I unleashed upon this Earth?!!

I think Steve-o meant more like a parking complex than an actual car-hole. It could work, I think.

I guess upside of those horrible photoshops is that they do give a good frame of reference for what the final colour balance ought to be like.
The one with the sun actually looks really good, which supports my well-lit street scene plan also.

I don't even have photoshop, I used some crappy arcsoft... thing

I think that is a seriously awesome piece you've got going there. I'd be all for a street-background, too.

I might be saying just because I love this style of art, but if you were to use much more strong darks and lights in youc colors, it would be awesome. A creepy, unlit feel to it would make it pretty saweet.

But I think we all know that the real artist here is Steve_0. For being so damn sexah.

The finished product looks great :D The background really compliments the colours you've used.

I still think the vader one was better :D

In that case, it's still up there for you to use as a desktop background. :P
Personally though, I still say: NOOOOOOOO!

Thanks, to you and everyone! (Except Shens. :O)

Finished! Sorta! I got a bit lazy at the end and just used a photo for the backdrop. Suicide brainwashed me into it.

:p I was about to say it still looked like a photoshopped background :P

Incredibly megatastical work there Godzilla. :D
