I put a new clip into my AR-15...

You'd be amazed how many people do in fact have other more important things to know then a highly semantic unimportant definition.


Common usage dictates correct usage, if millions of "ignant folks" say clip and mag are interchangeable and essentially the same thing, then it is, this is how language evolves.


A tracked armoured self propelled large gun isn;t actually a tank...oh wait, it is, because thats what they have been called, even though a Tank is just a storage thing.


A bullet and its shell casing isn't a round, its not a round solid ball of lead fed into a musket, but thats what they are called now.

A Clip is not a magazine, I dont know why that upsets people so. I guess because they thought they sounded "Cool" saying it. But now they know the rest of us are laughing at them.

Yes but I cant shoot up a high school with my HP tower with a 64bit operating system and 4g RAM, Intel Core2 Quad CPU, NVidia GeForce 9800 GT and I must say pretty good quality Labtec speakers with subwoofers with a 20 inch Samsung monitor to clobber any stragglers.





Also since nerdish semantics are the popular thing in this thread, its computer games, not video games, my computer is not a video, it is a computer, and my games are developed to work on a computer, hence OH WAIT, NO ONE CARES.

It does matter because if you ask for clips IRL at a gun shop you are going to get stripper clips like say for an SKS. If they know you mean magazine they will probably correct you in front of whoever else is in there and that's just embarassing.
 
...and if you ask for a magazine or clips while playing Left 4 Dead you'll be met with silence for a few seconds, and then they'll ask if you mean ammo.
 
Can't say I've ever used either term in Left 4 Dead, so I'll take your word for it.

Ammo's better than saying clip because it's also technically correct. If you need a new mag its because you need ammo.

I wouldn't say so in the least. It's not about saving time, it's about using the correct term. Its like calling a steering wheel a joystick. Similar, but not the same in the least.
 
I'm sure there are significantly more people who'd say clip when referring to a magazine as opposed to the amount of people referring to a steering wheel when saying joystick.

If you're in a gun store you'd better understand that difference, and if not, you shouldn't even handle a firearm.

ANYWAY you guys are completely missing the point. If I'm in battle, there's explosions and gun fire going off and I run out of bullets, I'm going to shout to my buddy "CLIP!!!!!!!!" instead of "MAG-A-ZINE!!!!!!!!". More than likely I would say "AMMO!" but you get what I'm saying? Your buddy will know what you mean when you say clip, it DOESN'T MATTER to use the correct term except for situations where you actually have both types available.

You guys need to give this crap a rest, the only reason the OP brought it up was to shoot his brain matter all over everyone. "HEY GUIZE LOOK AT ME I'M TEH EDUCATAMATON!"
