HL2 Retail/Steam Packages Confirmed!

You won't recieve game discs with the steam offer. You'll have to backup the files yourself.

Has there actually been any official releases saying next week is when the prices will be posted?

Press release official? No, but it has been written by Valve Employees that it would be next week.

Guess we will see next week then...If I am wrong bout the subscription thing I hope gamestop will give me my money back and let me cancel my collectors edition preorder.

OK Im confused, can someone answer these questions for me

1. Are they still doing the no mods thing on the standard edition retail (I remeber this from last summer)
2. I dont have a credit card, and I wouldnt be able to download all of the content in the steam packages because of bandwidth issues, would I be able to download DoD:S as a seperate mod after? Would they make me pay for it?

1. they stopped that went to the gutter when sirrea went under
2. No idea.

I just read over some stuff on dodmod.com...future of DoD is uncertain, they just don't know yet. I'll tell you one thing though, if you have to the store and buy DoD seperatley aside from HL2, the competetive community will die. Hell...its been slowly dieing for a year and a half (since Valve assimilated DoD). A lot of people just DONT have credit cards, or they dont feel comforable paying over the internet, I know I don't. My only hope is that DoD:S will be available as a mod download, for retail buyers of HL2 (standard and superdupernothing editio), once it is completed.

I have a few pet peeves which I want to say:

Since I live in the United Kingdom, I hope that when I purchase the gold package, that the price of postage and packaging of the t-shirt and goodies are not extortionate. Hopefully there must be an opt-out ability to not recieve the t-shirts and goodies, as it may cost alot of money to ship around the world.

I have also a have a few more questions,

1)Is CS:CZ going to get updated with the source engine?

2)If it does get updated to source does that mean it will cost an extra additional price?

3)Will CZ owners get a subsidised(reduced) price if CZ becomes CZ:S?

4)And finally does CZ count as a product which is part of VALVe's back catalogue which we get when we purchase either the silver or gold packages?

It will be most appreciated if someone can answer my Q's

1) yes
2) most likely
3)maybe but I wouldn't count on it
4)I dunno, id be cool if they did though. It's not like anyones going to buy it when HL2/css is out.

I'm going to buy the Gold edition off steam now, guys. It's the most logical choice. Thing is though, I'm going to search the internet and find out what the HL2 CD's looked like, print on of them off, and glue it to the front of my DVD i have the GCF files on. I might even make a box that looks like the CE box :D. that way I can have something that looks like the CE edition, while I get the cool other goodies too. I'm so nerdy :p

Gold — HL2*, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 1: Source*, Day of Defeat: Source*, Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam, Complete Strategy Guide from Prima Games, 3 different Half-Life 2 posters, Half-Life 2 hat, Half-Life 2 postcard, Half-Life 2 stickers, Half-Life 2 Soundtrack CD, Chance to win a trip to Valve! (1 trip offered for every 5000 Gold packages purchased).

One thing, Do people from the UK get free flights out there? Or can we "sell" the prize, for some money or something on ebay? :D
(That's in reply to the VALVe trip that can be won)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been checking this website every day for about 2 months. I can't believe they still haven't given us a release date, pricing, anything. I'm about so fed up with it that I may go buy Star Wars Battlefront. I am just so tired of waiting. We get a stupid little tidbit once a week or two, and that's it. There is no reason in the world why they shouldn't have announced it is gold by now, given that everyone says the RC is so awesome.

Erm, im buying this game over steam and it says it costs $49.95 ( £28 ) but it says + TAX. How much is the tax on this? Im in the UK and want to buy this game on steam, is it going to cost more?

go forward with the order, and after you put your name the next page itemises the price and tax and delivery if you went gold like myself.

Kinda resurecting an old (ish) thread but i need answers and this is the best thread i reckon...

The only difference between the Gold and Silver packs on steam is that you get a load of collectors stuff with the gold one that gets mailed to you....

Silvers the exact same as Gold software wise right?

(by that i also mean that if say... Natural selection or something else got source released by valve then silver would get it free as well as gold right?)

What happened with the steam gold trip?? I paid extra money to tryand win a chance go goto see valve studios and I do not think they even gave anybody a trip...

Yes, collecters items and the ego boost of knowing you spent 30 extra bucks on crap you'll never use is the only difference between the 2.
