An update is available for Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2 and the Source Engine. The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:
CS:S
[br]
New map: de_inferno
[br]
New map: de_port
[br]
Updated Counter-Terrorists player model with new headgear and color scheme
[br]
C4 red flash displays properly if the bomb is planted under water now
[br]
C4 explosion damage is no longer affected by water
[br]
When a map is loaded, an associated .cfg file is automatically evaluated. This cfg file must be located in the cstrike/maps/cfg folder and be named <mapname>.cfg. For instance, the file cstrike/maps/cfg/de_dust.cfg will be evaluated when the map de_dust is loaded. This is useful for per-map rules, bot rosters, etc.
[br]
Added new route to roof of hostage shack in cs_compound, and improved bot navigation in the map
[br]
Players must now target another player for at least a half second before the player ID text hint shows up
[br]
Grates/chain link fences no longer affect bullets
[br]
Counter-Strike player ragdolls are now affected by ragdoll magnets
[br]
Fixed a bot crash caused by finding too many hiding spots in a region
[br]
Bots no longer attack enemies that are very far away unless they have a sniper rifle, or the enemies are shooting at them. Instead, they track the enemy and move to a better attack position
[br]
Bots understand +use doors now and will pause to open a door before continuing through it on their way to whatever they were doing
[br]
Bots use less CPU now, especially when in combat with far away enemies
[br]
Extended the syntax of the bot_add, bot_kick, and bot_kill commands to also accept "t" or "ct" arguments.
[br]
Fixed bug where bots would stop and become unresponsive if they wanted to hide in an area with no hiding spots
[br]
Improved bot navigation on the windows and ledges of cs_italy
[br]
Fixed recording value of cl_interp in demo files and restore value during playback
[br]</br>
Source Engine
[br]
HTTP downloads from the game server system support downloading .bz2-compressed files
[br]
Disable old style (non-challenged) server queries by default (use the sv_enableoldqueries cvar to change this behavior)
[br]
Added cvar tv_delaymapchange to delay map changes caused by frag/time limit until the whole game is broadcasted via SourceTV
[br]
Fixed lag compensation invalidating bone cache for players moved back in time.
[br]
Fixed lag compensation interpolation error between 2 ticks
[br]</br>
Half-Life 2
[br]
Fixed some NPC actions not being properly randomized
[br]
SourceTV (part of the Source Dedicated Server)
[br]
Fixed memory leak in relay servers by releasing receive tables correctly
[br]
Bandwidth output in tv_status in kB/sec rather than bytes/sec
[br]
Running a new map command (spawning a server) shuts down TV relay in same process
[br]
Fixed SourceTV chase cam following ragdolls of dead secondary targets

Again, restart your Steam client to automatically acquire the updates.

Yea! Inferno!! Now that is a good update. Still waiting for VAC2 though...

My word! how long is going to take to download this lot? :x

Even Valve are saying it might take a while! This is probably the biggest update since HL2 was released & therefore its going to be the biggest test of the Steam servers to date. There's certainly going to be a huge amount of traffic & it will probably be a while before some of us can even get near this. I just tried starting Steam & it just locked up & crashed (Windows displayed a 'program not responding' dialog).

Yeah, judging by the size and my experience with previous updates I guess I won't be able to play this tonight. :(

Ah well, I'll just spend all day Saturday playing instead :)

What these two means?

A ragdoll magnet is used to pull a ragdoll in a certain direction, so for example if you wanted the ragdoll to always fall off a ledge it will.

Chainlink was probably stopping the bullets.

My one pc finished downloading the update for Source engine and CS:S in about 10 minutes, my other pc didn't get to finish, and HL2 was at 87% complete :x Looks like when I get out of work, time to update it and play a few hours, that or sleep :p

just had a run through of port, its a very nice looking map and large, its bigger than compound and there is few choke points where you can get annihilated like the conventional cs maps.i played with bots but it started laggin so i just had a walkthrough on my own, within seconds i found a very convenient sniping pt just behind the ct spawn that covers the ship very nicely, it involves a small jump over a slight gap and a quick run around behind the building beside the ct spawn. nice map overall, havent tried inferno

the new ct model looks quite ugly in game.

just checked out inferno, nice again, lovely detail, for example at the t spawn you can hear someone playing a guitar in 1 of the lil houses, a bit confusing once you get in and around the centre area, where that apartments are, the maps are much better than compound and train anyway.

ct spawn is right beside bombsite a too so i guess ts will favour going b like dust.

So, does this mean the combine now have better AI or something?

Yer I'd like to know what this means. I assume it'll stop NPCs from not moving/crashing/working?

Anyone know fo' sure? :afro:

for me anyway this fixed that annoying stress test "error" issue where certain models were missing. Horay i can benchmark happily again.

I havent tried the maps yet, but Inferno used to be one of my favs, rock on.

Glad to hear it

Congrats to Valve on a superb update!

I been playing inferno, it does look really nice but i think the layout of the map has changed abit to much, befor. There alot of areas where you could see a certen point of that map that has been, well, blocked. both the main ally ways where you used to be able to see the exit of that dark tunnel, well you cant see it now. Kind of a pain in the arse, gunna give it some more time tho and see how it goes.

Its fun killing the fish tho ;)

It is out and if you right click the server browser window you can look for secure servers and then play the servers with the little shield next to them.

WP Valve.

steam d/l the update very fast and both maps are great :)

"The Steam servers are currently too busy" - how long can I wait :'(! I gotta be patient though... VAC is on, sure! I was playing CS:S and HL2DM yesterday and everything was working great. Thanks Valve! :)

VAC2 went live weeks ago. They've just stopped making announcements about it as they said they would (no point alerting the hackers that their fun is about to end).

Can't play inferno.. Says the map differs from the server. Any ideas on fixing this?

You've probably got a custom user-made version of Inferno. Check your maps folder in counterstrike directory. I had the same error with train map.. I was wondering why it looks so ugly lol

I very much doubt they will just go and ban everyone unanounced. Considering VAC2 can be disabled per a server basis, there will need to be notice given when it is activated. And yeah its there now, but they are only testing it, noones being banned yet.

There was a notice a few weeks ago about it, they were WARNED, not VALVe's fault if people keep on cheating, thinking they can get away with it.

Why would ANYONE want to shutdown VAC2 on their server anyway? So they can cheat all they want? Tbh that shouldn't be allowed either :p

to play on weak servers. VAC eats up server resources.

I see good point if valid.

I have some serious issues with this update. First I started steam & it started downloading the HL2 update. No CS:S. Tried to load CS:S & then it started downloading. @ 100% it launched while I went to watch TV. Just tried to play but it was no go ;( Inferno (on my own server) didn't even load completely & then I got kicked back to the console with some random error that I did not understand :E So I tried de_port. Screen goes black & crash to desktop with error message. "map number is 4. You need map number 19!" or something like that. CS:S was still active though so I tried to open it but got greeted by a Windows error :( Gah.

Edit:
"This map is not final!! Needs to be rebuilt without -keepstalezip and without -onlyents"
That's what I got AGAIN now when loading Inferno.
"Engine Error. Map version is 4, expecting 19!!!"
Is from de_port (not in console. Desktop)

Wtf is going on? ;(

Have you tried closing Steam, restarting your PC and then reloading Steam. It's unbelieveable how many problems are solved that way...

OMFG you people need to stop saying its out since you can get secure servers and a VAC status. IT IS STILL IN BETA PHASE!!!!!!!!!!!!. Those secure servers, are BETA VAC servers that are basically logging things, to help make it better. Valve said there will not be any prior annocement about it coming out until it actually comes out, so the hackers will be screwed. If you do not believe me go to steampowered forums, and go to the VAC section and there are many posts about this and saying its still in BETA phase. So I guess its out if you want to call it that, but there isnt any banning or actions being taking yet, it is just gathering information. Plus, to connect to a secure server is a bitch and a half. Many people including me are having hard times connecting to them. So please stop saying it is out when it isnt, or less you call a BETA phase of it being out, which doesnt even do anything.

Yeah I've tried reloading Steam but not restarted. Gonna do that now. Why didn't I think of that? :D I wonder if that's a conscious design choice by M$? :) It probably is...

Edit: I'm such a noob. It works now. At least Inferno. Haven't tried de_port yet. Gotta pick up my yaw first. GJ Valve.

Well de_port starts downloading the second I try to start it so Steam locks up... And it only downloads for a few moments, then it shuts down. Guess it's because of the stress.

No-one deserved this outburst - play nice or people will ignore you.
YES it is in beta - but u don't think cheaters will play on the VAC enabled servers when they know they're being tracked, eh? Besides, the threat is enough to put most off.

de_inferno and de_port are nice maps

bit disappointed with the chain link fences now not affecting any bullets damage wise, but I will live.

wow, I really got screwed with this update. :*(

ok, so I download it, then i go to Play Games on Steam and it says Counter Srike: Source, but it's grayed out.
double click on it, and it says "do you want to install CS:S?" i'm going like WTF???
rolledback my system, and the Steam update went through once more, but then it says the same thing on the Steam menu.

So I says screw it, maybe just a glitch(valve is know for this type of stuff)
Double click on it, choose yes to install, and it actually DID reinstall CS:S.....
now it's updating everything like day 1, there's 68 min remaining.... ##$%@@$@$!!!!
oh well
*Rafa 5.0 gets a Snicker bar*

I got a few fatale errors in CS:S after updating so i did this like usual after bigger updates and everything works fine again.
