The tools to make models/skins for use in Source have not been made publicly available. In other words, you can't have custom content yet. If you've seen any custom content, it was probably made from the stolen build.

Leave Steam running for a while.

Eightball, Right click Counter-strike:Source Beta and select Properties. There should be some text about 'Amount Aquired'. If it doesn't say 100% then you found the problem.

It is a large update, perhaps it isn't fully downloaded on your system.

There is a singleplayer only version for those without internet access/hate Steam. I don't know if it will be available at release though.

I think he should check the console first. If it tells what's missing/corrupt he should be able to get the file from someone without having to download it all over again.

Checking your console might give you some clues. Use the ~ key.

You have a missing or corrupt model/shader/texture. There are some bug reports like this on the Steam forums.

What you see is what you get.

You can temporarily use that command to fix the scoreboard problem until the bug is addressed. Type -showscores in the console to hide the scoreboard.

HL2 won't have its own multiplayer at release. CS:Source is the multiplayer component.
