A long dark spooky tunel is a must. Make shure nothing happens right until the end of the tunel. Its funny how you shock the player who just gets used to the dark and silence when he gets jumped by fast zombies right at the end. And if you are a lazy mapper like me trigger a collapse at the end...
Its not smart to model an entire building. Model doors, windows,... and create the walls and the basic brushwork in hammer that way things are more adjustable and FPS in better.
If you have an entire enterable building as a model the engine will draw all of it at once, including the interior...

"hand make" all the brushwork- the cleaning proces of using carve is 100000x longer than making 3 cuts with the clip tool
and wall is not necesserily only 1 brush (if you have just ONE hole in it, its made with at least 3 brushes)

we shuld use the fact that a lot of us will work on this map- so we can do something big, not just a vast industrial area
lets make somethig like a giant dam, nucler power plant, combine lunch base...
but it has to be something that is "devidible" so every body has an area of operation.
