very interesting pull no punches interview with Peter Moore on xbox 360

the interviewer really pushes for some answers as to criticisms that the next gen looks remarkedly like the last gen:

EGM: Wouldn't you be pissed if you paid $400 for a new console and many of its games looked only marginally better than their current-gen equivalents?

PM: You wanna call out some games? Because I'm not gonna call out any games.

EGM: The 2K Sports games. Amped 3. Tony Hawk. Need for Speed. Gun. King Kong. People can argue they're not getting that big nextgen leap in graphics. On top of that, you're asking consumers to pay an extra $10 for these games. To quote you, "Next-generation games will combine unprecedented audio and visual experiences, create worlds that are beyond real, and they'll deliver story lines and gameplay so compelling that it'll feel like a..."

a previous article comparing the games mentioned with last gen games is rather illuminating ..the comparison videos highlight the not so next gen graphics of some of the games listed above:

the interviewer also slams Moore on backwards compatible games. He points out that Sneakers, Kabuki, and Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue are backwards compatible yet Splinter Cell CT, Soul Calibur II, Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball arent even though they have been big sellers on the xbox whereas Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue wasnt (who names these games? ...sounds pornographic)

Hahaha! I just got done reading this myself--glad you posted about it because there's so much truth in there. The interviewer hit many of the points that I have wanted to hit on since the 360s launch! Getting to the market first assures nothing and to do it at the expense of actually having next-gen titles baffles me.

Peter Moore does nothing to clear this up.

He knows what people are complaining about but then goes as far as to say things like he hasn't heard one negative comment about their backwards compatibility(!) and "we're selling games at an unprecedented rate; we're breaking records." Where did that come from? What records are they in fact breaking because I haven't heard of any.

Great read, if a bit biased and naive (thanks PM).

Why's he going mental at Moore? The 360 is a platform for companies to make games for, and if those games suck, then why is it his fault?

It's also a little sad that this focuses so much on the graphics jump and puts gameplay to the wind.
*shrugs*

ya but has gameplay changed in the next gen? I always thought "next-gen" implied next gen graphics

Yes, but next-gen graphics allow for next-gen gameplay!

Well, that's what they keep telling us...

It's about time gaming reporters started to ask game companies tough questions. So far they have been nothing but puppets for promotional purposes.

As long as this guy is this hard on all the major players then I will be very happy.

Finally, someone grew a pair and asked the questions we all wanted to know the answers to, and then Moore didn;t answer shit

We all know you are ****ing strange stern, but come on. Even we Canadians aren't that messed up in the frontal lobe.

Sure, some titles aren't "next-gen" but so what?!? Every platform has had at least one or two less than stellar titles at launch. Look at the PS2 launch. Some games looked great while others looked like just a slight step ahead of the last generation. Why didn't they compare Project Gotham Racing 3 to it's predecessor? Or a FPS from Xbox against Perfect Dark Zero or Condemned? Why didn't they also put an Xbox adventure game up against Kameo?

There are next-gen games out there. :|

I think the idea was to deflate some of the hype that he had been building up for so long to promote the system and expose the fact that a lot of it was, in fact, hype

good to see some people get real

that guy moore looks like a super villain or something like that

hahah
poor peter moore :P

Well, fact remains, all the games in that article are "ports".. Look at Fight Night Round 3 on the 360, that's a ****ing huge step(And you can compare that directly, because there're versions coming out on the XB1/PS2 also)!

I dunno, looking at the X360 version compared to the XBox version I don;t see that huge of a step, since the game looks damn good already on the Xbox, and all it seems is that the characters have a few more polygons and are more sweaty... am i missing something?

So wait wait wait, what other steps can there be?
It includes dynamic shadows for the characters, more polygons, and more detailed physics on the face etc, more detailed environments, far higher resolutions, a real motionblur shader(Much like PGR3/PDZ)..
It looks FAR superior to the XB1 version...
Oh well, I guess we'll have to see how the final versions compare..

Simply put, they released the system too early, in my opinion.

Another year could have fixed bugs, got more "next-gen" games to be released, and prevent all this bickering about how it's not a true "next-gen" console right now, which I agree, it isn't. It's an Xbox capable of more, maybe, but the games don't deliver.

A delayed release could prevent that. And a delay might frustrate some people, but come on, we all know what console gamers are like, and we also know that they don't have much choice. Xbox360, PS3, or Nintendo Revolution. Most are devoted fans and their minds are made up before they see the hardware on what console to buy.

Uhm Baal, far more people I've talked to decide what console to get based on what games are coming out for it, rather than the hardware itself..(Most of my mates are buying PS3s instead of 360s for MGS4).

This is not next generation, you bastards. It's like taking a PS2, putting some makeup and glitter on it, and then putting it back as a PS3. I don't think that any of the new consoles are worth the 4-500$ they want you to pay for them.

This proves that selling consoles as full fledged gaming systems doesn't work. They're too expensive, too limited, too expensive, and they're also too high priced for what you get. A console should cost no more than 200$, otherwise it's just a computer-lite that you hook up to your TV.

The PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube had something new to offer when they came out. These new ones are kind of like taking your computer and putting an extra stick of RAM in it. Not worth the price.

They'll have to come up with more good games. And if you bought the console, they should cut you some slack on the games. We should all start pirating our console games, that'll drive the prices down to resonable levels. Im talking maybe 40-50$ per game. Not 50-60$.

This thread is full of more peope talking crap than that article ;)

Poor guy, it really isn't his fault that most of the launch titles are rubbish ports.
