I have a 5.1 sound system setup for playing Half Life 2. All works perfectly except for when characters speak, the sound only comes out of the 2 rear speakers (rather than the middle channel which is sitting ontop of my monitor). This makes it near impossible to hear what is being said unless I turn around and face the other way, then sound comes out of the front middle speaker like it should (expect backwards). What sort of changes should I do.

Thanks.

are you 100% sure you have the speakers plugged in correctly?

if your soundcard came with a utility to test or calibrate them try running that, i've plugged mine into the wrong sockets before andnot noticed...

Sounds like your speakers are plugged in wrong or flipped. Check to make sure the speakers are plugged in the correct way on the amp...not only in the correct spot but the correct polarization(redvsblack).

As lone wolf suggested run a calibration test. If that sounds fine then it is going to be a software problem, however I suspect not in this case.

Where can I find a calibration test program, the program that came with my cheapass sound card doesnt have anything like that (although I recall testing the speaker setup once). I followed the color code according to the picture that came with the sound card...everything appears to be correct. EVen when I switch plugs around the sound remains the same.
