what is the difference between regular and 64 bit version of half life 2?
I downloaded my version from steam so i have no manual.

If you don't know what the 64bit version is then just ignore it.
It all depends on your system and OS.
To use the 64bit version you either need Xp64bit or Vista 64bit. It is basically a version of the game optimized to run on 64bit systems.

64 bit is a faster method then 32bit for running your system faster but the winxp 64bit is really buggy so dont bother.

Do you speak from experience?

I'm running 64bit windows and I'm doing fine.

Not true. 64bit is a faster method for handling larger numbers than 32bit numbers. It also can doubles the memory requirments. So 64bit wont increase performance that much on less the application makes use of the 64bit.

btw pontypool, the 64bit version requries a 64 bit processor.

I have a 64 bit processor and 4 gig of ram with a 6800 gt pci nvidia graphics.. will 64 bit half life improve for me? my friend says its got something called hdr which makes things look shiny and metallic?

The Source Engine had HDR on certain maps regardless whether your CPU is 32 or 64 bit.

HDR was implemented into Half Life 2: Episode 1, HL2 did not have HDR.

Both 32 bit and 64 bit versions are the same in terms of gameplay and graphics.

You need a 64 bit operating system to use 64 bit applications.

I'm just glad that 32bit and 64bit Vista will be supplied together in one box
