First suggestion: A money system with 'purchasable' items.
Two forums I know use this - Some potato gun forum, and the PSP Forum.
Here is how it works - for each thing you do you get points, for creating a thread you get like 10 points, for a decent sized post you get 5, and for a tiny post you get like 1. And maybe there would be some other stuff you get points for too, like PMing or something. And then there is a virtual store with virtual items that you can buy. Like on the PSP forums you can buy different PSP accessories, games, different coloured PSP's, etc. On the potato-gun forums you can buy a bunch of random crap at one store, potato gun accessories at another (laser sights, scopes, etc). and actual guns at another store.
On HL2.net we should have a store for the Half-Life universe (like a pet headcrab, a combine glowstick, maybe your own strider that would cost like 10,000 points). And a store for the forumers (like CyberPitz's underwear, Tollbooth Willie's banana, a genuine Moderator's 'NO', etc.).
And when you purchase these things (that have pictures associated with them), you can go to a users profile page and see what they own, trade with them, etc.
Again - This already exists on other forums..
Also note - It's virtual, not real items..
Second Suggestion - At the top of the page there should be a link (along with a short description) of someones thread, just to get it more publicity, and each day it changes to someone else's thread, maybe there can be a sign-up sheet or something that people can sign to get their own day (or hour, or few hours, etc). I haven't seen this anywhere else, I just thought it'd be cool.
I think this stuff would be cool to have on this forum, it'd make it more interactive and possibly a more active forum.
Now for the barrage of mod NO's.
