Ever get the feeling you are part of an experiment to see reactions and response to a situation?

the situation is:

Halflife2 announced
Release date set for 30th Sept.
6 days before release date changed.

I am just waiting for the news report that a fan has killed himself because he could not take it. Gabe appears on CNN saying as a mark of respect they will not be releasing HL2.

Okay maybe the bit about Gabe is a bit far fetched:cheese:

In all honesty, they have done no magazine promotion at all. Okay, maybe they dont need to with all the hype but there are still a lot of users that dont follow forums like this. If HL2 was going to come out surely they would have put some adverts out about a month ago? Even a game as anticipated as this still needs some promotion.

Big Retail outlets nearly always get some information as to when a game is coming especially when it is supposed to be only a week away. I mean the game would have to be in distribution channels ready to be delivered to shops by now for next Tuesday.

At the end of the day, a few bitching fans one make any difference to Valve - its like the kids sitting in the car on a journey asking are we there yet, are we there yet.

When the game is released all will be forgiven. I dont believe they are still working on the game as a recent trip from a forum member explained. I think it is more a publisher related issue.

Having said that - I hate the way game companies treat their fans - Valve have been so good replying to emails and then pull this one out of the bag.

It wont be the first game to slip at the last moment but now you can see the reason for WID.

One tip - dont ever give a release date until you are absolutely sure! What a way to tarnish 5 years of work Valve.
