This article is based on what, i have experienced, of the game, so far. I am currently at the ravenholm chapter of the game.
The storyline for Half-Life2 is most creative and also gripping, raw, realistic and one of very dark vision of the future in the games world.
The game has an excellent graphics engine which far surpases anyother for realistic effects i have seen in another game to date and impressed me very much. The way u are again inserted into a totally foriegn world, as was in the first game, and yet again this does is amazing from the start of play. It instantly gets u gripped with a sense of where am i? and gives the lust for learning the story of the game world u are in. This level of realism in the graphics and the way u begin playing in yet an unexpected environment are very effective and as u start to play u discover a very gripping and very horrifing world.
You start off on a train as in the first game when inserted. You find yourself in a very strange world indeed. A city called city17. u see alien figures, people are confused and scared and the whole world is like a total draconian police state, with agressive respirator faced guards and brainwashing signs and television.
For what happend in the original game at the end was as is now apparent. the aliens invaded earth.
The game brings about very disturbing and horrifying reality in it. The Earth is run by and controlled by an organisation called "the Combine" this is like a police force and military in one and is instantly brutal. for this organisation wich has obviously replaced all original governments, is run by the aliens.
The Combine is headed by the administrator of the old black mesa facility who we apparently never saw in the first game (this is not the g-man, as now becomes obvious). This guy is running the whole dirty show and as becomes clear this organisation is NO human government, it is antihuman and is completely evil.
They have guards on every street watching the whole population (or whats left of it) . they beat every human charaacter and kill. they starve the people and encourage the people to join thier very regime for a "decent meal". they do not let people speak to each other and raid houses. every human is in a prison uniform mostly confined to thier house. the tv is all brainwashing and its messages are pure poison. the combine declares that all good and real human values are the barr to progress -to deroy human free instinct and thought and portrays all that is good in the world to be wrong that must be expunged. meanwhile what it upholds to be good is infact the very extermination of the human race. it has working for it humans which are the combine "soldiers". these are actually working to destroy thier own kind unknowingly. bringing the entire world to sorrow, destruction and a levels of death and extermination of human beings. the head of the organisation the administrator, is a man of complete evil and insanely plans industrial scale mass extermination of the entire human race and planet earth for the aliens bidding (if he is an alien i dont know yet, but this is one nasty evil villan)
the combine police force enforce as is the law of this governing entity which is to deny humanity every human freedom of instinct and of mind as to make sure they dont interfere with the aliens activities on earth and to gradually weaken and exterminate the planets natural organisims and humanity. the combine police therefore enforce so humans cannot follow thier instincts , rebel , reproduce or even talk to each other.
if this isnt bad enough those who rresist are hunted down like dogs in what is like and enemy of the state film chase like scenario in which u find your self playing in. the world is a high tech , anti-human hell. in which combine makes it as adverse for humans as possible. sterlilising humanity from growth. and ensuring nothing but death one way or the other to make way for the aliens.
the combine military uses humans as soldiers to exterminate thier own kind. for those on the run as u are . they have covered the world in toxic waste and use aliens as weapons of masss destruction to human beings. firing what appear to be mortars filed with head crabs all over the earth to hunt u down adn infest all humans. robots and probs patrol the skies exterminating all resisting peoples. only the rebels offer resistance .
the part i am playing at the moment is like a human town which has been extterminated by combine. all are zombies and piles of human corpses are everywhere. dead zombies dead mutant humans burning in fires and impaled on sticks.
for what i have played so far is really creative as a story and is a real story of horror. with great action of course
freeman may have caused the tragedy but he is the only one who can save the earth.
