I made this thread assuming that working on this website isnt a paid job.

Which if it isn't it requires an amazing amount of time to keep it up to date, active, and managing the staff. Considering HL2 has now been cancelled until next year, what will you do? Just continue monitoring the forums?

I imagine that not everyone has free time for ever, I've recently started college at the art institute, and I know that with my hours there and homework, I would never be able to get the time to work on a major site like this.

My wonders are in what happens when time runs out for current staff...?

You guys are going to go to college right? assuming your high school students. What will you do when you cant work on this site anymore, just leave and get new people, what about the owner?

Who ever owns this site, are you just going to drop the site and never work on it again? or pass it on to someone else. and what if no one wants to pay for it? Will the site fail then?

If half-life 2 actually comes out!!! maybe you guys could make money from the traffic on the site? heh.

Considering its demolishing PHL, I could see you guys getting sponsors, have you? It would be really neat to get lots of sponsers, and keep up massive servers.

And have your own map/Mod of the day, and tons of downloads. Are there plans for the growth of this site? will it be going above and beyond? or is this is, will the site just stay like this?

I dunno, I was bored and was wondering about that.
Just wondering abuot the future of HL2.net, and here is my thread. Yup...

I read somewhere that the HL2 pre-gold is going to be released soon. Wow, I guess valve lied about how much they lost, especially if there will be a pre-gold soon.

You guys hear about vivendi merging with NBC or something like that? weird.

I wonder just how much money HL2 is going to miss out on, with people DLing the game soon....

Any of you going to download it?

Any official word on the hacker?

I like this emoticon --> :bounce: <-- lol.
hilarious... and this one is pretty cool -->

enjoy!~

Welcome to the forums!

There are quite a lot of staff members, and I'm sure there'll be more eventually. There's already about 5 administrators who could run the site in the absence of Munro who's the head honcho really. And yes, I think it's funded right out of Munro's pocket.

People don't need money to drive something like this. That's why the HL1 mod scene was so big. Everyone wasn't in it for the money. They were in it for the fact that it's fun. If you've got the money to do it, and you're doing it out of the goodness of your heart, or as a hobby/interest then you don't necessarily need external funding. It's just worth it.

The site is growing every in popularity, so with that I'm sure that eventually there'll be files hosted, HL2 MP tournys etc.

Hmmm...
"...guess valve lied about..."

Right, so they lied about the game being completed. But the game is actually completed as the hackers are releasing it on Thursday, which must mean Valve lied about how much they lost? They're not liars.

Yep, but Sierra etc. will probably remain unaffected by it.

I'd say 80% of the people that DL the beta, will buy the full game regardless.

Lots of people will, but I won't.
No word on the hacker.

Good points. And yes, people will buy the hl2, if not only for the support for valve(and eventually hl3:afro: ), but for the multiplayer.

I would reply but I'm too knackered. nn.

"Considering HL2 has now been cancelled until next year, what will you do? Just continue monitoring the forums?"

- Half life 2 has not been cancelled, the new slated release dat is in april 2004.. which isnt that far away. delayed.

"I imagine that not everyone has free time for ever, I've recently started college at the art institute, and I know that with my hours there and homework, I would never be able to get the time to work on a major site like this."

-Im in the same boat, people sacrifice free time to dedicate to something they enjoy doing, and the moderators and owners of HL2.net are inhuman.. so that explains why they can afford time.. with their inhuman time halting machines of dewm

"My wonders are in what happens when time runs out for current staff...?"

-new people are hired, or hl2.net goes down... simple logic

(you asked the same thing like 4 different ways... IM THE REDUNDANT ONE not ye!)

"I read somewhere that the HL2 pre-gold is going to be released soon. Wow, I guess valve lied about how much they lost, especially if there will be a pre-gold soon."

-either that or the hacker (already a known thief) is lying (perish the thought)

"You guys hear about vivendi merging with NBC or something like that? weird."

-I have not heard this, got a link to the source?

"I wonder just how much money HL2 is going to miss out on, with people DLing the game soon...."

-probably not one penny... I doubt anyone who tried the beta would even think about not paying for the retail.... HL2 is one of the most anticipated games of all time.. you must realize even if there was a full version on warez, you still wouldnt be able to play it over steam, and HL MP with its MODS, are the real reason most grab it.

"Any of you going to download it?"

-hell no, and anyone who admits they would should be shot... keep it to yourself if you have no honor.

"Any official word on the hacker?"

-nope, nothing new.. all speculation as of now.

Welcome to the forums

i reakon 100% of the people that downloaded the beta will buy it because when they see how amazing it is they will want to buy the full game :D

Amen.

Yeah but if a full version is leaked before then there'd still be a few people that wouldn't buy it.
