Ok, first of all. To seriously believe that it was going to be released on the 30th you would have to be kidding yourself. Especially with all the rumors about it being delayed till Thanksgiving/holiday season. There was discussion of it not being released on the 30th for a very long time prior. Although Valve should have had the balls to tell us though. However there were several sites, www.ebworld.com for one that had the release date for HL2 sometime in November. But again I'm sure most people here would rather hear a solid statement on a delay from Valve instead of speculation.
Second, if you did major upgrades for Half Life 2 and blame Valve for your loss you are an IDIOT. There is NO blaming Valve for "lying to you", its your fault, deal with it.
Third, I've been playing games for a long time now. And from what I saw at E3 and such, HL2 looked 3/4 finished. Well the game looked like a majority of the major work was done. The physics engine was in place and they appeared to have done alot of work on character and story development. I'd guess that since E3 they have mainly been ironing out details and finishing up little bits. Just put yourself in Gabe's position for a minute. You are the founder of one of the most popular game development companies in the world and you have just spent 5 years working and invested ALOT of money on the most anticipated games of the year. You have fans begging you for HL2 yet you want it completed to perfection as much as possible. Then this whole fiasco comes into place.
Valve does great work, we just gotta let them do their job and continue to support them especially through this whole mess and in the long run i'm sure we will all be very very pleased with the results.
