Add/remove programs list not responding?

Lately I've been having problems with the add/remove programs box not working. It says that "Please wait while the list is being populated" but I left it on for over an hour and came back and it still said the same thing. It shouldn't take longer than 10 seconds to fill the list in. I've been searching on google and can't figure it out. Someone please help, I don't want to have to reformat so close to Vista. thanks

Or just use the programs own uninstall rather than the add/remove thing.

Download CCleaner and use its add/remove programs tool, check and see if you can fix your shizzle from there.
