I currently have a Pentium 4 1400 MHz 1.40 GHz 512 mb of ram! i have the radeon 9000 pro 128 mb (i think :E ) Im limited on cash but i can run HL 2 on medium settings pretty well, my concern is about what would be the best thing to upgrade to increase my frames per second refresh rate thingy.. ahh thanks guys!

Your processor, without question. An upgrade of any magnitude will raise your FPS and decrease loading times. Your video card is sufficient to play the game with good frame rates.

Depends on the Cash you have to spend. Id go for an AMD 64 bit model, and then just get the best one out of that series you can afford. The 3000 model is pretty affordable, and will make a huge improvement in your gaming performance.

How much are you looking to spend on your processor? I agree with Seeky that you should upgrade that. Try searching around the web looking at diffrent prices and reviews. Your motherboard might also be something to look at upgrading, also make sure you have the mobo drivers updated. Don't worry about anything like cooling though, if your getting bad temps just buy a cheap fan take the side of your case off and point it in that should fix any temp problems as long as your not overclocking it.

The thing about upgrading processors, is alot of the time, especially when going from a really old one to a new one, is that it requires getting a new motherboard as well. And then you got to get into makin sure all your old ram and stuff is compatible with the new motherboard.

Alot of the time you can get combo packs of the processor and mother board. Try looking at http://www.newegg.com/ . Even if you just want to upgrade your video card, you have to make sure its compatible with the mother board. Newegg.com has pretty cheap prices, so you should be able to get a good idea what it would cost you.
