Am I missing something? (ending spoilers)

I just finished the game last night, and I have some questions.
Where's the tentacle scene featured in one of the E3 videos? the one where Alyx's talking and a combine drops out of nowhere only to be attacked by a giant bluish tentacle?

Why was the ending a cliff hanger? you kind of lose the immersiveness if you have to wait 2-5 years for it continue

The blue tentacle creature is a Hydra. It was left out from the game.

Damn, Stern! You've been spending too much time in Off Topic. Everybody knows the hydra was removed. This was confirmed well before the release.

Why a cliffhanger? Because they want us to buy HL3!
Its only really a cliffhanger because of Alyx. Which is why she has to live. Imagine leaving us hanging for 5 years just to let us know that she did indeed die. That would not be cool!
