Ok, so if the gravity gun can't affect living stuff, why then are you able to use it on the antlions, by using the "push" feature of it. Also, it would make sense that if you can pick up a dropped weapon on the ground, you could also rip it out of an enemy's hand, or even be able to affect their armor. Thoughts?

They never actually say in-game that it can't work on anything organic.
The best way to put it is that the manipulator can affect organic stuff, but only with extremely limited power. Fire mode works fine with smaller organic things, like headcrabs and antlions, but nothing larger than a person.

So for inorganic things it can lift anything smaller than a washing machine, and punt anything smaller than a truck.
For organic things it can punt anything smaller than an antlion, but it can't lift them at all.

It might also be designed to have no effect on humans, as a safety measure. That would explain why it can't affect zombies and combine until it gets broken.

I'd say that the feild is just easily broken by struggling.

Because the games easy enough. Theres a thin line between lame game play and awesome realism. If you were able to rip guns out of enemies hands..then it would be just that much easier of a game. Why can you get shot with a rocket and live? Or why get shot in the face and lose 2 health? Many things in the game are unrealistic..but it keeps the fun gameplay up.

when you meet that guy who says, "You there! Stop right there! Don't step on the sand, it drives the antlions nuts!" in sandtraps...the single antlion that's already there and dead..you can pick up with the grav gun...interesting

I think antlions are supposed to be very light for their size, which explains why some can fly for short distances and why the gravity gun can affect them.
