Seeing as we have Source (CS:S), I was wondering if Mods are allowed (or capable) of release before HL2 is released?

Mods made for CS Source maybe...but not hl2, since it isnt out yet.

I don't really know what they could do, since they don't have any tools yet..other than modelling packages.

Who cares if they are allowed? People will release them reguardless.

They cant make them because they dont have the sdk yet.

Can't people still find a way to mod the game. Didn't that happen to battlefield 1942...no sdk yet a few people found a way to make some rather good mods, such as desert combat? I'm not a modder, so i don't really know how this stuff works.

Many people have the beta, and by having that beta they have some sort of edge..... if I may so, over some aspects of HL2.

Some even called it the pre-sdk,

Well, I'd imagine that fairly simple CS:S mods might start to appear but we won't be seeing modifications for any other Source game until they're actually released (oddly enough).

It's true that an SDK isn't really needed, but modding without one is the equivalent of trying to eat a large, hot meal with a pair of icicles instead of cutlery. You often end up using your fingers and making an amateurish-looking mess ;)

As far as I know, only 2 mods are being created with the SDK, and these mods are in a way "testing" the SDK for Valve.
