ARG Help!

So im all excited to play dod:S. but when i load it up the menu wont pop up and it just freezes. first the sound shows up but in the laggy way with short bursts of it but then it stops all together and theres no menu. I need your help. I must play this game tonight, it was supposed to be the highlight of my day! Please dont make me resort to getting a life!
