Any old 2142 players on HL2.net? I'm reinstalling this ol' beast to have some fun with my beloved European Union.

Anyone?

I play it on and off.
It's not installed at the moment though.

You probably won't find many 2142 players here though, pretty much everyone just shrugged it off as a BF2 mod.

Try looking in the battle field section

Agree with Lucid. I can't name five people who play it regularly. They always go back to BF2 :3

I like it. I don't play any games 'regularly' though, just depends on my whims.

I have never seen you use the catface.

2142 > BF2

I have many more hours in 2142 than I do in BF2. There are many small improvements that make it a more pleasant experience.

According to Xfire which I haven't used in ages.

Battlefield 2142 - 322 hours
Battlefield 2 - 110 hours

Escape pods on the titans are the most entertaining part of that game.

I had expected Unfocused in this thread. He used to play this game a lot.

Played it during the beta test. Haven't touched it ever since then. By far the worse title in the series.
It felt and looked like a half assed mod to me.

Battlefield is a quirky game to get used to. HL/CS/HL2/L4D2 all feel natural in their controls, even GTA3 PC felt pretty good to me. Battlefield takes a LOT of getting used to, the helicopter controls are soooo quirky/touchy. Shooting seemed to require a skill, that I can't exactly describe, but the more you play, the more you "get it" but it NEVER feels natural.

The helicopter got 50000 times easier to pilot when I plugged in my joystick.

Yeah, I'd play, but I'm busy with other things atm.

TwwIX, you shouldn't judge the game based on the beta. Did it have the same map as the demo (Sidi Power Plant)? Then it's a shit map, IMHO. And the beta probably didn't have unlocks, did it? They add a lot to the game.

As for hit detection - it doesn't seem to differ from BF2 to me.

What? Sidi Power Plant is great, it's perfectly balanced unlike some other maps.

Judging games on their betas is bad practice. Why would you base your entire opinion around an unfinished product? Half arsed? Really? If it was half arsed wouldn't it just be a direct clone of BF2 rather than what it is? The healing mechanic in 2142 alone is enough to put me off ever wanting to play BF2 again.

I play 2142 and, as one of those "mother****ing snipers" that everyone hates, I CANNOT STAND THE HITBOXES. I will headshot, leg-shot, any-where-on-the-body-shot with the Zeller-H, the most powerful weapon shot-for-shot excepting point-blank shotgun, and they will take no damage. I will get a perfect headshot on someone and for no real reason the shot will miss them and do no damage. The bull

The only reason I play is I already have it, and the Recon gets active camouflage. It's awesome to sneak around totally undetected and kill enemy vehicles.

Never played it, but I remember having a blast in the old one, and when this one was first announced everybody was all "OMGlol another???"

Makes me feel old.
