Battlefield Play4Free?

I just found out about the closed beta. Looks like BF2 but with micropayment upgrades. I just tried to play the "closed beta" but I couldn't get in to a server. Anybody else try this thing? I'm curious about it.

Yeah, basically. It is BF:Heroes in first person view with BF2 skins. The graphics actually look less impressive than BF2. The gameplay is very much dumbed down.

I just don't get who this game is for. The low cost of entry and simplified game mechanics surely point towards a casual game for casual gamers. And yet, the game is totally unrewarding for them. To make your soldier well-rounded you need to earn quite a few training points, and to get access you need to grind the hell out of it. It requires hours of play each day, and is thoroughly unrewarding for anyone taking the game's name at face value. Sure, you could play for free, but no, you don't want to.

And if you are the kind of gamer who wants to invest that much time, you might as well spend a bit of money on Battlefield 2: Complete Collection or Battlefield: Bad Company 2, selling for $20 each on Steam. You're probably going to end up spending the money anyway on BFP4F, and those other, older games offer substantially more graphical splendor, and considerably richer gameplay mechanics to boot. All for a one-time cost.

In spite of this, I'm sure this game will find some fans, somewhere. The Battlefield Play4Free forums are already demonstration of this. Anyone who dares criticize the model or suggests even the slightest way it could be improved is flamed by EA's defenders and told "that's the business model, like it or leave."

True enough, and I know which option I'm picking. So long, Play4Free.

Game is shit. I played for five minutes and it was just like MW2. I literally spawned, and from my standing spawn location got 3 headshots with the basic sniper rifle before moving on and killing other people.

The graphics look like something out of Return to Castle Wolfenstein or Halo.

of course it's buggy, glitchy, unbalanced and an abortion to play and look at: it's based around battlefield 2.

I got into the beta a month or two ago and played it some. Pretty crap but what do you expect.
