Belgrade = City 17??

I have some pictures of Belgrade, Serbia that looks like city 17 and white forrest.

The city landscapes are based on eastern european countries, yes! ... Very likely they took inspiration from Belgrade, but I highly doubt it is all based on Belgrade.

It's a known fact that several buildings in HL2 have the same architecture as in several eastern-european cities.

well there are more pictures i have too put in, but i know that city 17 is fictional. Im just saying that city 17 has many similarities with belgrade and serbia.

Hmmm...interesting thought. Belgrade does bear a striking similarity to C17...

I think it was said somewhere that they used the Belgrade parliament building to model the combine nexus building.

Yep, the Nexus is eerily similar to the Parliament.

I see what your saying with the architecture and general setup of things in City 17 and their relations to Belgrade, but it seems to me that White Forest could be pretty easily related to just about any forest at all.

I think the best comparison was done by GooseGoose in his commentary on Half Life 2 where he makes correlations between City 17's architecture, location, etc with a Ukranian city called Odessa. There also seems to be a play in of Odessa by Col. Cubbington and his little town called "New Odessa". City 17's industrial areas and residential architecture are very much like Odessa and it's location on the Black Sea looks like it could tie in very well with the location of City 17 because of the boats and the sea being on the east of both cities.

Also, the cars are very very much Eastern European.

Edit: Check out this shot. Remove the ferris wheel and bam! outskirts of City 17.

Familiar lighthouse in Odessa.

Their port is also pretty close to the port areas in the game.

Oh man... and this boat is just right on the money. Very close in style to the boats shown in the game.
