Just had the greatest stroke of luck today - I got offered a job starting tomorrow, business telemarketing from home. Really easy stuff, just have to identify companies which might be interested in an SAP solution within the next nine months. Can't believe how well it pays - ?10/hr and ?50/lead!
I could earn an absolute bloody fortune doing this, my troubles are over!

Anyways, I need to perform well on day one. I don't want to try and do this with a cordless phone, that would be a nightmare...any suggestions as to what software I should use to make calls through the PC? Preferably one that keeps a record of all calls made.

Cheers.

The only program I know of it Skype. I've never actually used it though, but if you want to look into it:

http://www.skype.com/

Thanks...I was always under the impression that Skype only allowed you to call other people who have Skype. Apparently not, according to the website.

I'll go with Skype then unless anyone has a good reason I should use something else?

Congrats on the job :D

Skype is what I would use but I don't know much about using the phone through the PC.

If you're ringing a landline, you have to pay. Skype is free but SkypeOut isn't. (skypeout is what you need to make calls to landlines)

If you're making a lot of calls, the best thing to do is go with Vonage (or someone similar) that let let you make calls over your network to landlines but have a flat monthly fee regardless of how many calls you make.

But you know how I just hate telemarketers, right?

Me neither... :(
Skype seems the obvious choice though (now I know you can call phones with it).

If you're using a landline, even at the other end, you have to pay. Skype is free but SkypeOut isn't. (skypeout is what you need to make calls to landlines)

Well the company will reimburse the call costs, which is why I wanted the program to keep track of all calls made. I just don't want to have to pay a fee to use it or anything, not at the moment anyway.

But you know how I just hate telemarketers, right?

Calling businesses is a different ballgame entirely. :)
It pays about a zillion times better, too.

SkypeOut is pretty cheap for calls anyway.

I'll go with those recommending Skype, it's pretty reliable. The quality isn't always great for phoning mobiles, but if you're going for landlines it should be fine.

Grats on the job dude :)

Cool. I've just had a look through my datasheet...every single number there is a landline.

Grats on the job dude :)

Thanks. :)
It was really bizarre actually, I just decided yesterday I'm gonna look for jobs locally and if I have to pay cab fares to get there, so be it. Had an interview set up tomorrow and everything, I was actually really keen about the job and they were really keen about me, but it would have cost me 30 quid a day just to get there and back. It's a shame, it sounded really interesting - responsible for key customers, chance to make offsite visits all around the country and a couple of nights away a week, draft proposals and tenders, recruit and manage a telesales support team about six months down the line...

Then out of the blue I get a call this morning from a recruitment agency I spoke to months ago and who've never come up with anything even halfway decent. Quick call later from the MD of this company and I had this job, starting tomorrow. I just had to take it for the certainty and the lack of cab fares. All the opportunities seem to come at once...
