According to Worthplaying.com BioWare - the company that brought you Baldur's Gate, NeverWinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic - is working on a MMORPG. Details are very scarce; it isn't even known in what setting the game will take place. More info will probably surface during the E3. So let's speculate! I for one am hoping for a MMORPG in the Baldur's Gate universe.

holy shit... and no I doubt it will be in the Forgotten Realms, considering they would need to use D&D rules. I think this may be a true contender agains the beast that is WoW. Warhammer online is looking promising as well but who knows.

I concur. I would even go as far to say that this will be the only true contender to WoW.

Exciting news. I can't weait to see what Bioware's take on an mmo will be.

Imagine a Baldur's Gate mmo :)

*Rant begins*
I hope they do something that's actually original and doesn't just involve alot of leveling..
I'm so sick of MMOs right now..
Hopefully their SP projects won't suffer as an result off this.
I hope this doesn't mean they take away people from their other projects, but instead hires a new team to work with it ffs..
DON'T MAKE THE SP RPGS SUFFER!
SINGLEPLAYER POWER!
*Rant ends*

damn, I hope it's awesome

I also hope it's a new game not a sequel or anything

Shakermaker, perhaps Bioware will do something good, like have a maturity test that only allows immature people to play so we don't have tons of people running around screaming n00b at eachother.

I also hope you were joking with your SP statement..*Draws out his sword*

THANK GOD! Guys, I was right, they won't really take people away from the SP projects to make the MMO.
On March the 13th, i.e. today.
"BioWare has opened a new studio in Austin, Texas. BioWare Austin has begun work on an MMO project and currently has various job openings. BioWare will also be recruiting at the Game Developers Conference, Mar. 20-24."
From the official site.

Also, they're making both Mass Effect, 360 exclusive and Dragon Age(PC exclusive), the MMO and one more unannounced next-gen game.:)

No, I am not joking, sir! Prepare to defend yourself!!

Seriously tho, of course SP-games will always be made, but I myself hardly ever play 'em anymore. I prefer real time contact with other players.

Shakermaker, so do I, but without the jerks, so I usually just play with friends or people I know in one way or another, or say on BF2 etc, I only play on servers with sensible and active admins..:p

Oh well, there will always be jerks. Plus I found that there are less jerks (altho unluckily enough not 'no jerks') in a MMORPG. I have been playing WoW for the last couple of weeks and I must say that 99% of the players are very friendly and helpful.

I don't get why people are so addicted to MMOs. I mean, I like CS (yes, I know its not an MMO--it is online though) but that is about as far as it goes for me. I have enough contact with idiots and/or friends in RL without having to go to cyberspace to blast/hack/slash them. It also just comes down to the fact that I just don't have the time to devote to an MMO.

I admit, a well-done implementation of a BG MMO would be seriously interesting to me, but even that would disappoint as the other characters would be real people and not the interesting and meaningful characters you meet in the SP BG experience. Games like Dragon Quest 8 and Oblivion and the like are as close as I will probably come to the level-grinding madness and huge expansive world of an MMO.

Well I love MMO's so it will be nice to see what comes of this. I'm waiting for Diablo 3 myself though :D

I hope it's unique, there's upteen billion boring same-MMo's out there.

After going through FFXI, Guild Wars, and WOW I'm done until there's something actually unique.

Right now the only one that looks 1/2 inspired is the pirate MMO, although it does look very "rough" so i'm not sure it'll turn out to be well done.
