While reading the Episode One speculation thread, several people brought up the possibility that Breen transfered his mind to a Combine Advisor. This theory seems to be spreading quickly, so I thought I would point out two problems with this theory that make it highly unlikely.

1. If you'll remember, Breen was recieving a host body because he could not survive on the planet he was being teleported too. Now, why exactly would Breen head down to the teleportation chamber, get into the lift that seems to move 5 feet an HOUR, and then transfer to a body that is NOWHERE NEAR THE TELEPORTER? Doesn't quite make sense does it.

2. I'm pretty sure everyone already noticed this, but it seems that the Combine Advisor is above Breen in rank. If you'll remember Breen wasn't so much as order the Advisor to open the portal as he was begging. Why would an Advisor give his body to Breen? Contrary to what he may believe, the Combine don't need Breen, and I can't imagine a Combine Advisor giving his body to an arrogant braggard like him.

It seems to me that the point of the Breen recording was to show the player that the Combine Advisor Breen was speaking to was not on another planet but in the Citadel.
Breen may very well be alive. I personally don't believe it, but it is possible. However, he is not a Combine Advisor.

It's great minds like you that keep me thinking:thumbs:

I believe he's the Combine Advisor that mind-attacks you in the room. It makes sense for him to show up and basically say "**** you assholes" after you watch that scene again.

Plus I read somewhere that the advisor that attacks you is named npc_breen_advisor or something.

The original intention may have been for Dr. Breen to recieve his host body after successfully reaching the Combine Home Dimension. However that fell through and Breen was on verge of becoming consumed in the the teleporter reactor explosion. Much as the Vortigants were revealed to have greater powers than previously thought, the same can apply to the Combine Advisors and somehow they saved Breen from certain death by mentally inserting him into a host body.

Breen was loyal to the Universial Union throughout the entire ordeal, surely his Benefactors realize this? Breen could become a future lackey for the Union, while having to use a host body would be symbolic of how humanity is beyond saving.

Then why did the Citadel Advisors all have a camera attached to them when the HL2 Advisior in contact with Breen lacked this? I don't see why Breen would go through the Citadel Advisors when he needs the services of someone in the Combine Home Dimension. Plus in older HL2 concepts, Breen was planned to become some sort of mecha to obtain Combine immortality. It seems this idea could easily be revived.
