brightskins, forcing combine models

a while ago Alba made skins for combine/rebel that were all blue/all red to make it easier to tell teams apart in tdm. some people get bent out of shape because these skins give an 'unfair advantage', but they dont propose a different solution.

one way to make teams easier to tell apart would be to force all combine models to look like the white supersoldier. is it possible to add something into your config or something that will force combine troops to always look like the white ones? if so, how do you do it? also, would changes like this get you banned on VAC?

bah, the elite is quite possible the WORST player model to choose in dm.

They stick out like sore thumbs and are unable to hide in the shadows like the rebel players can. On top of that, elites, nova prospekt security, and combine soldiers all make a loud rustling noise as they move where as the rebels make almost no noise. The fact that they have glowy eyes doesn't help much either.

The best model, and most balanced against the rebels is the metrocop, as they don't make any extra noise and their eyes do not glow

I think it would be pretty pointless anyways. It's very easy to tell teams apart just by their overall look and sounds. They only end up being similar in totally dark levels like lockdown. But in maps that dark, you might think a filing cabinet is a person for a second.

Otherwise, I don't see how you could get them mixed up to the point that they need to be huge primary colours just to tell the difference. And unless you're playing FF servers (which most people don't) there's absolutely no reason why telling them apart would be an issue, except maybe to prevent wasting a couple of bullets.
And if you are playing FF, it defeats the entire point: added realism.

It's just stupid.

The point of FF as I see it is to reduce the spam. You have to think before you fire. You can't just fire combine balls into a room without makeing sure your team is out or aware they are coming.

I don't play TDM on public servers, only in friendly wars, arranged mixed games or ladder, league or cup games. And with proper coms you know where people are so most of the time you know what you're aiming at.

But none of this is the point of brightskins for me. It makes the game faster as you spot people faster than with how it is now. And if you want HL2DM to be a fast game, like I do, that's a good enough reason to have it. But the major leagues and ladders don't allow it, so I don't use it :/

I'm waiting for AG2 though. According to the AG2 team leader, Precizion, it won't feature brightskins, but something else that will let you know right away what you're aiming at, so it's all good.

You mean people can't tell the difference between teams?

Kinda. Everybody is all dark so you have to wait for the text at times to see who you're aming at to see if it's the right color or not. But mostly for me it's only on public so it's not a big deal cause I try to stay out of public TDM.

Well, that too.
But then the brightskins also remove that point by allowing you to think less.

Or just making the game faster. Which is what I want ;) I don't worry much about it though as I'm waiting for AG2 =)

i dont see why youd want to change the skins in any way. if they were all red and blue it would look too much like crappy halo. and if they were all elites, well, that would just add to the disadvantage that the combine already have with their jingling.
