I've not been online much the last few days so I did a quick scan through the HL2 sites looking for any updates. Coming across City-17.net it would appear they've now ceased to be. I knew the site had been down for some time but it's a shame to see it's pulled the plug altogether.

City 17 has been shut down due to a lack of content updates, and because of the postponed release of Half-Life 2. Currently there are no plans to relaunch the site after Half-Life 2's release. We regret to leave the community, but many factors forced the staff to cease working on City 17. We'd like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of those fans who supported the site while it was operational.

City-17 was one of the better HL2 fan sites about with quality updates and a good friendly community. It shall be missed.

*raises glass in respect*

I used to come there quite often and other HL2 sites. But now prett much only this one.
It's a shame, it was always a more mod related HL2 site, had lots of good mod info.

Noooo the HL² community have had another loss :( I was gonna say: "I hope this is not the start of the end of the HL² community", but ofcourse its just a setback coursed by the enormous hype of HL² and then the big vacoom after the 30th sept. IMO.

/me raises glass to a good website

it's hard keeping on going when you don't have a community like this one... we'll be soldiering on over at beyond halflife though.

They didnt tell any hosted mods about the site going down... thats a little dumb. City-17 was a great site... too bad its dead now :/

After the stunt Valve pulled, you can't exactly expect the community to wait around forever. Valve only has themselves to blame. Sadly, I fear mod teams will have moved on to more promising platforms by the time Half-Life 2 sees the light of day, which is a pity seeing as Valve was really counting on the mod community to keep things alive. Ah well, at least there'll always be the single player game to look forward to.

Real shame about City-17 it was one of my favourite sites. Always good for the mod news and updates. It shall be missed ;(

AH! feels good doesn't it? ;)

 to the (IMO) 2nd best Half-life 2 website!!

Oh, please, you think I'm trolling? Tell me you don't think the general state of the Half-Life 2 community is not directly attributable to Valve building up the hype then unceremoneously pulling the rug out from under us.

If you don't have a reasonable response then just leave well enough alone, but please don't accuse me of trolling.

/sniff already lost a fine member.... and the game isn't even out yet :(

I don't think your trolling, I know your trolling and whats worse is your trolling on the back of City -17's demise. I wouldn't try overplaying the internet 'community' angle either, it's a game not a religion, and being a game delays are inevitable. Sure the lack of a definitive date is a bitch, but given the circumstances and the abborrant level of rattle throwing and shit stirring that took place when the game didn't ship initially I'm not surprised that it's drifted into 'when it's done' territory.

Games get delayed!!!

It's a shame CIty 17 is gone but it couldn't of been a very strong community in the first place if a delay caused it to cease.

I mean look at this site. HL-2 was delayed and it's still quite busy.

why is this a sticky? I know its sad and all but lets move on!

good god, i got scared reading that title. i thought it was gonna be like a 2 year delay to hl2 or something /me wipes beads of sweat from forehead. still a big loss, and symbolises that the comunity doesnt have the time or dedication [for the most part] to wait patiently with little/no new info for a game. poor website :(

if city 17 allowed guests to view thier message boards they may kept user/member retention
