cable internet but ping still high?

For the past week, my ping for CSS has been really high like 90 in 13 player servers and up to like 130 ping in 38 player servers. My conenction speed was fine 2 or 3 weeks ago with my old card but that one got fried because of a lightning storm. Now I have this spare crap pci network card that was like 10 bucks that a friend gave me. My old card was a nvidia nforce with gigabit (don't really kno wat that means but it's fast) which gave me ping at like 30 or 40 in 20 player servers. Am I getting bad ping because of the crappy new card? I also have cable internet so it should be fast. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :cheers:

90 isn't high. I play in servers with 90 all the time, and I too have cable internet access.

You sure you're accessing servers in your immediate area? Because when I play on servers in LA, I get a ping of 90, but when I play in local servers, maybe 30-60, depending on the servers connection.

Just yet another case of somebody wanting/expecting more from something working just fine.

And take that free psp link out of your sig. You will, and with all do respect, I hope you get banned. Not because you're an asshole, but because those things are the devil, corrupting your pc with spyware and sending you spam phishes. Just take it down and learn from your mistakes.

Hmm it could be the quality of the NIC but it could also be other software slowing down teh connection or your ISP could just be slow. If you can, I suppose you could get a decent NIC from a friend to see if it makes any difference.

run a speed test and see what you're pulling down, the speed test from bandwidthplace doesn't show your upstream speed however.
