Can't get over the gap

I'm stuck in the kanal route where you have to climb on the horizontal bars and shimmy over to the other side. Somehow I can't climb on them! When I am on the other side it works like a charm. What am I doing wrong?

DID you Raise the level of the water

You need to go to the other room and raise the water level and get over. not the bars.

Head back to where you first came in (the room with all the manhacks and barrels) Climb the ladder up, as high as you can go. Then jump onto the nearby pipe and follow it unti you can jump down onto the walkway above. Then enter the room with the yellow pipes, climb down, and hit the valve.

Go to the other side - the room you're looking at - and follow the drain-pipes downward until you find a valve. Turn it, and the water level will rise. Come back to the room that you're in now and.....well, there's another puzzle.

thanks for the hint, I actually missed that valve. Previously I stacked drums 'underground' to get up to the red lit tunnel. That wasn't necessary now.
I released the cable drums and was able to climb on the other side.

heh, I did the same thing as you =P I felt so stupid when I finally looked right under my nose.
