Can't load/use weapons

I just broke the lock on the fence with the two guns I just found (after killing that annoing headcrab of course). Both of the guns were empty after that. Now I found some ammo, but it keeps saying my ammo is full while it's empty!
Also can't select any guns anymore (obviously because they are empty)

1. Is this supposed to happen?
2. Is it normal that you need all your ammo for breaking the lock?

One shot from the pistol will break the lock. Try reloading from an earlier save.

Started a new game... Same thing happens...

Wait, that wasn't very helpful. Verify the integrity of your Steam files. Seems to fix problems for most people.
