Can't open the console

I don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong, but I can't open the console in HL 2. I've enabled the console in the options > keyboard > advanced menu, but I still don't see it no matter how many times I press the key that's supposed to bring it down... I think it might be 'cause of my Finnish keyboard layout, but then again in other games the key that has supposed to do the trick has done it. Usually (in other games, such as HL 1) the console comes down by pressing the key right below ESC, but not this time apparently... On my keyboard the ~ is found right next to the RETURN key, but that doesn't work either. Anybody know?

EDIT: Bah that's what I get for not reading properly

create a txt-file in your cfg-dir. It's in
".../valve/steam/steamapps/you-steam-id-handle/half-life 2/hl2/cfg"
open the txt-file and enter this line (or copy-n-paste to make sure it's right):

bind "\" "toggleconsole"

Close and save it, and rename the file to autoexec.cfg. Violá.

or you could just right click the hl2 icon in the my game menu, go to properties then launch options and enter -console

Sh4mp00: That works too, but it will just bring it up once, and if he happened to click it away, he won't get it back unless he restarts.

nope, pressing tilde again in game will bring the console up for me just fine (and I didn't do any tweaking) but maybe i'm special.

You're using an American keyboard configuration, that's why it works. T-Dogg and me has the same keyboard config, and this is a known problem for scandinavian users. It doesn't make you special, just... from a differrent continent.
